Good news first - he tested negative for FIV and FeLV, so he's definitely
now an indoor only pampered cat.

Second, since we're definitely going to keep him (as if that was ever in
doubt), I decided "Garvin" just wouldn't do - too undignified. So we're
going to call him "Hunter" (kinda goes with "Archer" doesn't it?).

He was the PURR-fect gentleman at the clinic - he purred through most of the
exam (except when they had to stick him for blood - at which time he gave a
little hiss). No biting, no scratching - just a little doll. He goes
Thursday for his snip and then back again in three weeks for his next
worming and distemper booster, then back in two months for the final,
definitive FeLV test (in case he was just exposed in the last couple of days
outside - small chance, but possible so he won't be mingling with the rest
of the clowder until then - which is probably how long it will take to get
him/them used to each other).

He's now in our spare bedroom eating (actually inhaling) a can of Fancy
Feast and purring up a storm. I have some video I'm going to process and
post so you all can hear just how *loud* he purrs. Be back with that after
lunch.

So he just sauntered in, looked around and said "I like it here"?

Sounds like Stinky.

Exactly! ; Coincidentally..... There was a guy at the clinic who, when
asked, said his dog was named "Ugly". The receptionist laughed and said,
"What a crazy name for a dog!' I said, "Well I know a lady who has a cat
named 'Stinky'" and everyone in the clinic laughed (don't tell Stinky the
laughed, tell him they said, "Oooo, what a dignified name for a handsome
cat"!).

What does "Garvin" signify? It's not a name I've ever heard before,
so it's got no connotations for me at all.

I had a link with meanings of names. It did not have Garvin, but Garvyn
maybe close enough. It's apparently of German origin and means Spear
friend: ally.

Ah ha - I posted too soon.

But aw, I liked "Garvin". Hunter is also a cute name, though and is
certainly appropriate for a cat.

I love it when a cat eats and purrs at the same time. I don't know if
you ever give your cats dry food, but it's especially amusing when they're
chewing on kibble and purring - the crunches just sound kind of purry.

It was a name DH made up from "Garfield" and "Marvin" - I really didn't like
it, but it was better than DH calling him "Balls". I changed it when we
took him to the clinic, so it's official - in their computer and all - it's
now "Hunter".

I liked it. Thought it was a cross between Garfield and Alvin.
