I was about 10 years old when this song first came out, and I had NO
clue what most of it meant. Never mind the French part (which I didn't
understand or even realize it was in French until I was in my late
20s). At the time the song came out, I was young enough to be
unfamiliar with words like "creole", "cafe au lait", "boudoir", and
"mocha". (This was several years before Starbucks took over the
planet, remember. ;o) ) Oh, and also I wasn't familiar with
"marmalade" rhyming with "odd". I was used to hearing it rhyme with
"paid".

However, later on I saw the words in print and it's "Mocha chocolata
ya ya"... I am presuming that it's a reference to Lady Marmalade's
skin color, since elsewhere in the song she's described as having skin
tones the "color of cafe au lait".
