Default My sister got a cat

My sister who has been going through the nightmare with her 7 year old
daughter's rape got a kitten!!!!! I didn't even have to suggest it.
The universe intervened for me. Someone she knew found a very young
kitten, probably 5-6 weeks old in a parking lot at a shopping store and
foisted it upon her. And who can refuse something that cute. They also
did it at a perfect time - when she was falling apart and had no
resistance to make logical decisions - like "I can barely take care of
myself and my kids, the last thing I need is another thing to take care
of". I'm not generally a big fan of my sister falling apart, but if it
gets her something I think she needs, maybe there are reasons for it.

From what she describes, I'm guessing the little girl is going to be
long haired because they have named her Q-tip because all the fur on her
body just sticks out from her body a long ways. She is white with black
spots and the favorite thing she does right now is that sideways jump
that kittens do with their back arched - all the way across the room
until she hits a wall and falls over. It sounds hysterical.

The landlord is just sick over what happened to my neice - literally -
she has lost 20 pounds over it - and has told my sister that if she gets
her the $200 deposit fine, if not, whatever. More importantly, the
landlord checked the sex offenders registry sooner than she would have
and found out she had a registered sex offender - not the man who got my
neice - living in one of her units and she evicted him. You can't live
in the kind of housing she has if you are convicted of a felony unless
you tell it on your application and then they can deny you depending on
what you did. Her landlord is a good woman.

You know, sometimes something like that happens just in time to
*prevent* someone from falling apart. Falling in love with a cute
little critter has been known to get people to pull themselves
together enough to care for the little mite-- and gain some strength
and confidence from that. I've seen it happen.

Oh God, who doesn't love that? She's a little Maori warrior (or a
Kiwi rugby player!) (http://folksong.org.nz/ka_mate/#66)

Yay! Congrats to the family and to the kitten! She might be just what
they need.
