It's the same here. If you ring a mobile in Finland, the caller pays, but if the mobile is abroad, the owner pays. I think it's because the caller may not know that the mobile they are calling is abroad, so they wouldn't be aware of the higher charge. My sisters tell me that if I call them in Mexico from the US on their cell phones, *they* get charged a higher fee than if I was calling from Mexico. I can't believe that! *I* am paying for international long distance, why should they be charged anything extra? -- Victor M. What kills me is now you get to watch commercials when you go to a movie theatre. We already pay megabucks to get a ticket, ridiculous prices for some popcorn (which we all know costs next to nothing) or some candy and a soda. Now you have to sit through 5 minutes of commercials. I think (might be wrong) that movie theaters generally lose money on tickets, but make money on the concessions. Either way, it's a rare movie that can compel me to go see it on the big screen. Yay netflix. -- monique, who spoils Oscar unmercifully pictures: http://www.bounceswoosh.org/rpca |

tickets, but make money on the concessions. Yeah, that's what I've heard too. The entire ticket price goes back to the studio, so the only way theaters stay afloat is by overpricing the concessions. Either way, it's a rare movie that can compel me to go see it on the big screen. Yay netflix. Yay on this side, too. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Netflix. Digital Cable, DVR, and Netflix. I now use blockbuster.com, which is 3 bucks cheaper per month (I got a special deal, their normal price is the same as netflix) and I get 2 free in-store movies per month. Their regular plan includes 4 free in-store movies per month. -- Victor M. Martinez Owned and operated by the Fantastic Seven (TM) Send your spam he Email me he |

I fired Netflix after learning of how they penalize people who rent a lot of movies. I know that used to be true, but I think it was addressed. Actually, it was never "a lot of movies" -- it was people who always request the latest blockbuster as soon as it's released to DVD. Since most of my Netflix usage is to watch TV series without interruptions, even if they're still playing that game, it doesn't matter to me. I've never had a problem getting the movies I want. I typically have at least 50 movies in the queue, and only once or twice in the last two (?) years have I gotten the second DVD in the queue instead of the first, presumably because all of the first were already rented out. I love the fact that I can hold on to a DVD indefinitely without worrying about late fees. I now use blockbuster.com, which is 3 bucks cheaper per month (I got a special deal, their normal price is the same as netflix) and I get 2 free in-store movies per month. Their regular plan includes 4 free in-store movies per month. I refuse to use Blockbuster. I can't tell you how much money I've wasted because if you are late by a day, they charge you for a full additional rental period. They may have changed that, but I don't care; as far as I'm concerned, they're scum. They're the whole reason I switched to Netflix. They also sent their lawyers after my brother for owing money once. It was on the order of two bucks or something. -- monique, who spoils Oscar unmercifully pictures: http://www.bounceswoosh.org/rpca |

Then came a couple of TV series I watched fanatically, so that I was sending back discs the day after I got them. This ticked off their computer algorithm and marked me as a heavy user. I recently read an article about that 'problem', too. Apparently some people watch the movies as soon as they get them and put them back into the mail the Very Next Day (horror!), and for those people, Netflix slowed down their deliveries. In my early days of Netflix, I used to be able to go through 3 mailings a week. That has slowed down to maybe 2. Big whoop. As far as I'm concerned, renting at least 4 DVDs a month is still a big leg up on Blockbuster's prices, or Hollywood's prices, or pretty much anybody else's prices. Besides, they come to my door! How cool is that? I've watched the entire Buffy show via Netflix, plus Angel, Scrubs, and several other series ... never experienced a slowdown. We are also very lucky in that there's a processing center in Denver, so we basically get next-day service. -- monique, who spoils Oscar unmercifully pictures: http://www.bounceswoosh.org/rpca |

I quit Netflix when it got to where even if I returned disks first thing on
Monday morning, I would not have the next set for the next weekend. Since we only had time to watch on weekends, this meant we only got DVD's every other week. And I know it wasn't the postoffice.
