Hi Marcia , I'm to the west of London waving. Otis is gorgeous , he's similar to my Kim. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/ali...d8.jpg&.src=ph or http://makeashorterlink.com/?O39A126DA Alison I'm in Walthamstow (waving back) - he is similar isn't he? I once saw a whole colony of feral cats in Gran Canaria, who looked the same. I've tried to take more pics but all you see is a fluffy black cushion so I'm not posting them until he decides to turn around. I tried to get on the floor but every time I did he came towards me for a rub and all I got in the shot was his tail! |

"Marcia" wrote He looks so much sleeker since his diabetes was diagnosed and treated, first of all he lost loads of weight (which he needed to) but became quite emaciated, now he's the perfect weight, which is nice. Wonderful. Do you have to give him shots? He's 15, has had various accidents and illnesses during his life (talk about 9 lives, I think he's probably at 1 now!). Yes I give him shots and also a tablet for a kidney problem. I'm away this weekend and have to pay a vet nurse to come in and look after him, cos all my friends are wimps and won't do it, they don't realise how easy it is with him. I do it at meal times and he looks back at me as if to say where's my shot then, I swear he knows it's what keeps him well. Never makes a fuss, never has, how lucky am I? So very lucky. He does not look a day over 10, and you are giving him the best life ever. I mean, you even stop whistling in order to keep peace in the family, in addition to all the wonderful, loving care. He's a lucky boy too. |

He's a lucky boy too. Thank you, that's really kind. There's been times when I've guilt tripped so badly about things that have happened to him, bless him, there's been so many illnesses and accidents. He's my first cat and I wish I'd known more about their illnesses etc before I took him on, because I've had to learn as I go and he's suffered for my ignorance, such as not being told you can clean cats teeth. It never occurred to me to do it, then he had to have some teeth out and some are still yellow. Also I didn't know that he shouldn't have been eating dry food and then he got bladder stones. Also I foolishly believed the manufacturers claims that cats regulate their eating, I used to let him eat as much as he wanted, thought he was just a greedy/tubby cat as he didn't go out and exercise, and then he ended up with diabetes, I could go on but I don't want people to hate me I'm just confessing! At the end of the day though, I love him and he loves me and the vet seems happy with him. In fact the new vet nurse came to meet him today as she's looking after him this weekend (at my place as I don't like to send him out) and she was amazed how young & well he looked with his diabetes/kidney troubles, may it go on as long as he's happy and healthy! He's used up most of his lives over the years, it's unreal how many times I've thought I was going to lose him. Anyway, now that I've found this group all you experts are really helping me out with advice, maybe a little late in the day, but much appreciated nevertheless. A feeling maudlin but fairly proud of her "mothering" skills. Marcia |
