Default spraying turning into peeing

Over the past few months one of my male cats, Murdoc (neutered) has been
spraying in the house more than usual and in the last few weeks it's
turned into a full scale pee. He starts to spray and then it seems as
if he can't stop and it turns into a pee.

The cats use a section of the garden for their litter box, so I don't
really get a chance to observe them when they use it. Murdoc is his
usual boisterous bounding self, so I don't suspect he's ill, although of
course it is possible.

Any ideas?

That sounds to me like a stress response. Anything new in his
environment, new stray in the neighborhood, new people in the house? Hey
maybe you moved some furniture or changed a cleaner you were using.
One of mine gets upset if I have a foster in a spare room or if he sees
a stray out the window.

I think Feliway has helped some, but it's not a cure. He and I have an
agreement { I hope!) that he will spray/pee in one location that I keep
covered with disposable puppy training pads.
