Default Cats intimidated by mole?

I found a mole (?) running around in the house, and my 3 cats saw it but were not
interested in pursuing it and attacking it like they did in the
past with mice, bunnies, chipmunks. I had to pick it up and throw
it out myself. I wonder if the cats were afraid of it. Isnt it unusual
for the cats to not attack a rat-sized animal?

Who knows what lurks in the minds of cats. Tawny (RB) had all the cats and
most of the dogs in the area terrorized. We once had a mouse in the house.
I showed it to him, and he ran away.

IYDMMA, how does one pick up a mole? Do they bite?

By the tail and yes, they can bite. They are incredibly strong for their
size too.

One of the cats must have brought it in, I expect they just got bored with
it.

That was my thought too - that's about the only way a mole *could* get
in.

I have a serious mole problem in my yard, and the cats had been
ignoring them. Last weekend, I rolled the yard to smash the tunnels
down. Of course the moles had some of them open within a day, but
with so many fewer tunnels to watch, the cats started mole hunting
again. I saw one poking around a tunnel in the back yard the very
next day; when I got home last night, Ozy was clearly mole hunting in
the front yard; and as I was leaving this morning, Avery was doing the
same in a different area of the front yard. Dandy, my certified mole
killer, seems uninterested.

I don't believe that mole would have come into your house on its
own, so one of the kitties must have caught it and brought it
in. They probably were just done with it.

My experience has been that cats will sometimes kill moles, but
they find moles disgusting and will never eat them.

Very carefully

Do they bite

Yes, as proven by my grandson who took one away from the cat to dispose of
it before it was quite dead.

Well, my cat Sox likes them just fine. I have seen him eat at least one
on my back porch.

Good kitty!
