Default Lester: Brief Update

Not much to report. I've upped the food to 9 cc., and will try 10 tommorow.
He befouled the bed a couple times, rather than trying to get down and reach
the cat box - stained everything an intensely deep and flourescent yellow.
Maybe that's an effect of this strange liquid food. So I had to pull all the
sheets, blankets, and pad, throw them in the washer, and to scrub the
mattress. At that point I put down some plastic sheeting and a whole bunch of
old towels, and put a litter box on the bed.

Unfortunately, that means it's almost impossible to sleep with him, and he
does enjoy as much affection as possible. At 2:30 in the morning, I don't
have a huge amount of interest in spending time with him.

I''m told he happily spent some time out in the sun this afternoon, although
it wasn't a particularly warm day. I gave him a half hour of affection when I
got home from work.

Tommorow is the first day he'll be alone for quite a few hours. I'll have to
come home at work for the 10:30 feeding, and my wife will be home in time to
handle 2:30.

when my Siamese (RB) was spending her last days, I was recovering from
a knee replacement and had previously had a hip replacement on the
same leg. I could not get down on the floor. So I covered my
bedroom floor at the foot of the bed with plastic and placed her
litter pan there with her pillow next to it (water bowl too). She
could only walk a few feet but she kept trying to get to the pan and
bowl. I tried to sleep, but awakened about every hour to check on
her. These things are tough to go through and I know how you feel.
We are purring loudly that Lester doesn't suffer pain. Take care of
yourself and we hope you get some sleep.

The color is from the jaundice. It looks like a highlighter marker, doesn't
it?
Ask your vet if it would be a good idea to administer subQ fluids to make
sure Lester is not dehydrated and to help dilute the fluids in his body.
We went through this with Moxie and it seemed to help her.
Continuing to send purrs your way.

Hadn't mentioned this ... it's being done. He was treated before being
released last Wednesday, and at the Saturday "bad news" checkup. And we'd
scheduled more water for tommorow (Wednesday)..

I've given water before, with poor Havoc, who died last year, and wasn't
really good at it. On a cat as scrawny as Lester has become, they felt that
it would be pretty tough for an amateur to administer the treatment.

He was very happy in my lap this morning while I read the paper. I expected
to come home from work today for the 10:30 feeding, but my wife is a bit under
the weather and will stay home today. So she'll throw a couple blankets on
top of the plastic and towels, and Lester will have company all day. He still
avoids the heating pad, which has been wrapped in towels as per Mr. Briggs'
suggestion, but I enjoy it!
