But plastic wrap isn't a long-term solution, it's just part of the
aversion treatment to get him to not enjoy that corner anymore. I haven't been able to catch him in the act so I've got to do passive things. Dally Gawd! I can't believe this! You're actually contemplating *heating* the bathroom floor as part of your "aversion therapy", right? Your also making it smell unpleasant for him in there, right? You say you've made the texture unpleasant too, right? IMO, you're in a power struggle with a cat, and you're going to lose. Quit while you're ahead. Right now, all you've got to do is keep the door shut and all's well. You screw with this cat much longer and he's going to just start peeing *and* pooping all over the house. THEN what are you going to do? STORE the GD historically-significant door and get one that works. Or spend whatever it takes to get a professional to *make* it work. This is unbelievable. Sherry |

... Other things I've got to explore are changes to his diet, further investigation of possible medical causes, seeing if he outgrows it, seeing if changing his routine helps, and, then, after all this, seeing if I'm willing to reconcile myself to living in a house with a cat who I know is just seeking a way into the bathroom to poop on the floor. I think I've exhausted this group. I know I'm exhausted by this topic. I'll talk with Megan and report back in a few weeks. Dally Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see why you can't try the automatic door closer in combination with sanding or fixing the door somehow so it's not warped. If that doesn't keep the door shut, I would buy a standard door for the powder room and use the door closer closer on it, and maybe showcase that old powder room door as a piece of art. Hang it on a wall or something, that would look neat. If none of these work, I emailed the other volunteers and those in charge of intaking cats, and there's a place for Odin at our shelter if it's needed. There are at least 10 people willing to foster him, and the kitten room will welcome him, too. -- -Kelly kelly at farringtons dot net Check out www.snittens.com |

Yeah. I can't believe this person is having a personality conflict with a
CAT. Well, yeah. And there's a definite personality conflict between her and me. Maybe I'm the one who is wrong but IMO pet ownership is all about compromises. I make compromises all the time. Remember Yoda, who prefers to pee on a towel in the bathroom floor. I didn't over-analyze him or electrically-charge all the towels in the house or anything. I had little kids too and I couldn't seem to make them not throw them on the floor. So I put a towel down for him. TWELVE YEARS later I still do it. It's no biggie. I strongly feel if I *hadn't*, he would have graduated to other soft places like carpet. I'm not saying this to illustrate that Dally should tolerate poop in the floor and happily clean it up. She shouldn't. But she's got a golden opportunity for compromise. I think she should take it before the problem escalates. Sherry |

Dally wrote in message Odin, my six month old cat, had been doing bowel movements on the tile floor in my bathroom every day since the day I got him from a shelter when he was 4 months old.
