Sorry, on topic, my vacuum sucks so I can't help! But I was wondering, have
y'all seen the commercials for that little alien like vacuum that just runs
around the house by itself?? It looks cool, but pretty pricey still, as it's
new to market!

Let me find a link... http://www.roombavac.com/homepage.asp

Kinda neat looking.

No pun intended, right Stace?

Yeah, I love that thing. I want one. I don't think it's probably very
effective, but it's just so.....Jetsons. I just want to play with it.

I have one, and I really like it. I was skeptical of it, but my sister got
one -- and then I followed her lead. It could never take the place of an
upright vacuum for thorough cleaning, but it does a "great" job of getting
up cat fur and other "surface" dirt. I know it isn't getting "deep down"
(but sometimes I also wonder about the other vacuums for that), but the
carpet looks clean when it finishes. It also does a good job on hard
surfaces like vinyl.

It's fun to sit in my chair and read or watch TV while the little guy goes
to work!

That's good to hear. It might be worth spending the money just to get
one I can stand to use.

My own opinion, I think the whirlwind is very quiet compared to

I have the same vacuum, so I'll answer. It's not too noisy. Our

cats
don't mind the vacuum that much anyway, sometimes they chase

it....

Thanks, Victor. Maybe I'll get one. I really hate using my

perfectly
good Hoover because it's so loud it actually hurts my ears.

I wonder what the cats would think. Some might chase it around,
others would probably consider it The Ultimate Evil.

Holly and Duffy watch the robo, but not intently. They usually rest on the
backs of chairs at the time, so there is no chance it could reach them. On
the other hand, they both greatly dislike -- and somewhat fear -- "the big
monster" (the uprigh vacuum). Both of them scramble for other locations
when the big vacuum gets anywhere near.

I work as a cleaning lady and rely heavily on a good vacuum to do my job
well. I would NOT recommend anything made by Eureka and Dirt Devil. They
are both poorly made and have a high rate of repair. I have a long time
friendship with the guy that owns a local vacuum shop and he refuses to
sell them. If you want a good, reliable vacuum that can take a lot of
abuse, has great suction, is reasonably priced and does an excellent
job, my vacuum of choice is anything made by Panasonic. I LOVE Miele
vacuums but they are much more expensive than what you are looking to
spend. I have found very good deals for the Panasonic online and bought
my last vacuum for less than $200. Here is an example of one that is an
*excellent* deal:

That is precicesly why we call our vacuum "The Petinator" - all cats become
scarce when vacuum is present, except for Weeble, who watches intently from
the back of the sofa or recliner... or from the top of The Tower.

I had one of the first Dirt Devils, in the 80's. Would not have a Dirt Devil
vac if they were giving them away, free! Their parent company, since 2002,
has been based in Hong Kong and only listed on HK stock exchange. Mfg and
distribution centers are in Ohio. Don't think customer service is optimal.
Be warned.
Due to entire house being tile floored here, don't use vacuum anymore.
