Default Yellow cat is a TV watcher

There's a circus movie on TV with lots of big cats, monkeys
and other animals. Yellow cat is fascinated.

When he watches nature shows, with birds in it, I put a chair
in front of the TV so he can climb up and try to catch the
birds.

None of my cats have ever shown any interest in the TV, with two
exceptions. When Koala hears the TV come on, he looks at it in disgust
and leaves the room. Evidently the noise bothers him. The other
exception was Skeeter (RB). She was lying on my lap, facing me, as I
watched a nature show. Suddenly a wolf howled. She sat up, turned
around, and stared at the TV until I turned it off.

When I adopted momma cat (Petrie) from the shelter,
she wasn't quite tame. She was born feral, and had
only been semi tame for around five months. She hid
a lot and wasn't sure I wasn't going to eat her.

The way I tamed her was to play YouTube videos on TV
where cats were meowing. She came running to me
asking, where are the other cats? When she saw them on TV
she would stare at the cats. After that she started trusting
me. It was as if, she thought, if those cats trust me, she
can too.

I had a similar experience with Patches (an ex-stray). PBS was showing
an episode about feral cats, and patches was next to me on the couch. I
heard a hiss next to me, and looked over to see him all bushed up, just
in time to prevent his attacking the screen. It showed two cats
fighting, and he was all set to join in. (Not speaking cat, I've no
idea what they had said to each other, but obviously Patches took
exception!)

Persia never noticed the television no matter what was on. It might
surprise you to know when she first came to live with me I had two
parakeets. It didn't take long for her to figure out they were also
pets, not prey. She chattered at the outside birds but she didn't
bother the ones in the cage. Of course, I did gradual introductions. I
really wasn't expecting to have a cat move in with me. LOL

Some people insist you cannot have birds and cats. I beg to differ.
After the parakeets died I started missing having a bird. So I bought a
lovebird named Peaches. She was a Fischer lovebird.

Persia loved that bird. One time I was boarding them both at the vet
and when they were cleaning Persia's kennel they left the door to the
room slightly ajar. Peaches was boarded in the grooming room. She
loved the sound of running water. Persia crept out the door and went
looking for Peaches. She could hear her chirping. They found her
sitting next to the cage, looking at Peaches as if to say, "You're here
in jail, too?"

This is Peaches:

Sadly, I don't know where Peaches is now. I left her with my brother
when I thought I'd only be coming to SC for a short time. I *had* to
bring Persia; she'd been boarded for months. I felt terrible about how
long she was boarded and told my mother sorry, I have GOT to go get my cat.

I couldn't quite picture driving a thousand miles with both a cat and a
caged bird in the back seat of my So I left Peaches with my brother.
Then I got stuck here and never made it back to get Peaches. I just
have to trust she's in good hands.

My vet in Pasadena CA had a white cockatoo who sat on the counter in
reception. Whenever a cat was brought in, the bird would either say
that, or meow.
