Default Not a good week!

Boy, has this been a week! I found out that someone else got the
computer tech job that I had been REALLY looking forward to. Nancy
called HR at her employer's home newspaper about a job she'd like to
move to, and has still not gotten a call back (but she's still
applying). I've been pulling ocean-going containers between Oakland and
Long Beach and have never pulled containers before. And in my rush to
meet a ridiculous delivery schedule I got myself a speeding ticket today.

Oh, boy - I think I'm going to pay a visit to my doc when I get home
again. I can definitely tell it's time to go back on antidepressants.

Fortunately Harri is having a good time. We stopped at a rest area near
Tracy, CA today and Harri showed me her best gazelle imitation - leaping
over clumps of grass, her tail flying. It was really something to see!

Dan, this really sucks! I've been so stressing my job lately
because I'm being treated like a slave to a project manager and
I've been getting a bad attitude lately. Its so easy to forget that
I need this job and I guess I have to kiss butt, and I'm so sorry
to hear about your continued hard luck. More purrs for you and for
a closer-to-home job in your field. Scritches to Harri for keeping
you such good company during this.

Lots of purrs heading your way, Dan. Purrs that Nancy gets that job, and
that you find something else local to apply for.

LOL! I know that move so well. Frank doesn't like tall grass, and he
moves through it in a series of high leaps.

Purrs for things to go better. I'm glad you have your little furry
therapist with you, anyway. ;-)

purrs and ear scritches to Harri for keeping you company on this foul week.
I'm sorry about the job prospects, Dan. That sucketh, mightily. Nor are
speeding tickets fun, especially when you're trying to get your job done.

Today hasn't been great for me, either. I learned at work today that a dear
friend of mine died on Tuesday evening--it was totally a bolt from the blue,
as I had had dinner with her on Sunday night, and she had been completely
normal. The cause wasn't so much of a shock as she had had a problem heart
for many years and was in her late seventies. Then as I was talking to my
mom tonight, I also learned my brother and his wife are getting a divorce.
All in 24 hours. I have to wonder what the **** is coming next--tsuamis?
The Avian Flu?

Do please extend some purrs to Vee's newly orphaned cats, Tripper, who has
been a beloved companion for a number of years, now, and Chrysanthemum, whom
Vee adopted three months ago. And Vee's German Shepherd, Mia, must also be
feeling very bewildered and sad, right now.

I think I'll go to bed and pull the covers over my head.

Can I join you? I've just heard that I didn't get a job I applied for
and as I am reading the "thanks but no thanks" email the office moron
is having a very loud slanging match with a co-worker. (He's the main
reason I want to leave) Yesterday we learnt that Dave's dad has early
dementia.....

Let's all go back to bed and pull the covers over our heads and let
the kitties sit on us and give us healing purrs

Oh, good grief, I'm sure sorry to hear all this. You deserve
better. Extra-strength purrs and good wishes are coming up - hoping
you both find the jobs you want and need, and smoother sailing ahead.

Aw Dan, I'm so sorry. I know how much you were hoping for that job. I've
been having the same experience in trying to get back to my "real" line of
work. Some people say the tech market is picking up, but I don't see it. I
see more jobs advertised, but I'm not seeing anyone I know getting them.
Personally I think that companies are required by law to advertise jobs
before filling them but know all along that they're going to outsource the
work overseas so they just go through the motions.

BTW, I'm working right now for ConGlobal Industries (used to be
Container-Care International and Global Intermodal Systems) - we store,
repair, and sell ocean-going containers. We have offices in Wilmington -
have you heard of the company? Just wanted to tell you to be *VERY* careful
loading and unloading the containers, especially if you're using a tilt-bed
trailer. Just a couple of weeks ago we had an employee loading a container
at WalMart in LA who was literally cut in two when he was caught between the
container and the edge of the trailer. Nobody can figure out how that
happened (we don't *think* it was a mechanical failure), since 1) there was
no way he could have started the trailer tilting from where he was standing;
2) even if he could have started the trailer tilting he should have been
able to just step out from between the trailer bed and the container; and 3)
the trailer tilts upwards *so* slowly that he could have just stepped up
*onto* the trailer even if he couldn't have gotten out from between. We've
pull all those types of tilt bed trailers from use, but that's only our
company - there are hundreds of other companies out there still using them.
Anyway, take care!
