@mid.individual.net: Since the chip was never registered Animal Control probably can't tell Chak anything. I'm hopeful he's glad he has a new kitty. (Just FYI, I'm a 'she'.) It seems Animal Control does keep records of the chips along with the records of the adoption, at least according to a cat rescue organization I've been dealing with. It seems that once you adopt a cat the whole neighborhood has been feeding, every stray cat that's found will be brought to you. They brought me a black kitten Friday. Events are pending on him, though. Chak -- I say, if your knees aren't green by the end of the day, you ought to seriously re-evaluate your life. --Calvin, Calvin and Hobbes |

Sadly, it's not unusual for people to not look too hard for a missing cat. Or perhaps sometimes they do, and simply can't find it. I was so certain that my Sam, such a sweet-tempered cat and so clearly accustomed to living with humans, must have had someone looking for him that I didn't take his rescuers at their word and checked out the local lost cat resources myself. No one was looking for a young black tomcat. But it worked out well for me and Sam, and I'm sure it will for Chak and this cat. It's the loss of the original home! I'm still trying to find the original adopters, just in case they do want her back. She's probably mine, but I don't want to get *too* attached if she won't be staying. (Yeah, right. Little late for that, Chak.) I just know that if one of my cats got lost, I'd be so upset.
