Oh, I'm sorry to hear about that! That does sound really heartbreaking.
I'm glad that no matter what happens, you'll get to keep Lucy. And it's
great that your mom will be able take your other two if it comes to that -
they'll still be in the family that way.

I'm sure you've had to think about this issue much more than I have, so
if you've already done all these, please disregard these suggestions. But
I thought I'd mention a few things that I know some people have tried that
have made it possible for a severely allergic person to live with cats:

- washing the cats regularly
- HEPA filters and vacuum cleaner
- keeping the cats out of certain rooms ("dander-free space")

What about medication (for your bf)?

I really hope the PetalCleanse works!!

They also sell certain products that you add to the cats' water and it's
supposed to help relieve allergies. A good solution might be to keep the
bedroom off-limits for cats, that way he would not have those problems
at night, right?

Several days ago, I went messing in the Registry of my PC - where my pro
puter bro warned me not to "go wild" and messed up my OE bad. Thank God I
still had the required program parts left in the "trash bin" and restored
them! Haven't been able to download OE till now....Joyce, I left out a lot
in Rowdy's sad oddyssy. Yes, Bimbo saved his life when as a baby kitten he
was thrown - literally - to the curb. She kept him in a small carrier at the
doc's office for 3 days trying to shove him off on *patients* (most
unprofessional, but understandable under the circumstances) but what you
didn't know is that my pal called me when Bimbo was going to haul him to the
Humane Society here and leave him for adoption. A year and a half old fat
brown striper with an ugly blind eye - what chance would Rowdy have had for
a forever home with a new slave? We think not much (hence "Bimbo" lack of a
nastier name). It was not "either, or" - she was going to get rid of Rowdy
one way or another, period.....and yes, the rotties would have probably hurt
or killed him; she wasn't *that* stupid. Rowdy was so upset and nasty I had
to keep him isolated by himself in my laundry room out back for about a week
till I felt the girls could handle His Nastiness alone.

(Snort) I can relieve your curiosity: Bimbo was fired soon after I took
Rowdy, and did move in with that BF and the rotties (no allergies involved).
Radiologist (the doc who owned the office) found out about Bimbo's goings-on
in the office, as some patients complained - not about her trying to give
him away to them, but about him crying confined in a little carrier he could
not turn around in.....Bimbo and BF broke up after about a year. BTW, Bimbo
closely resembles Brittney Spears but has blue eyes and not dark ones like
Brittney. Cute as a button......I may be a snot for calling her Bimbo but so
what.....

I have just about 800 sq feet.....an apartment that small and there's no
such thing as "off limits"

Have you ever tried to convince a cat that has always slept on your chest
that he's no longer allowed in the bedroom. Hmmmm....could be part of the
reason why Demon is attacking Lucy so much. Since my boyfriend is over
almost every night, Demon is feeling left out....have to see what I can do
to work on both problems.

At this point, I'm almost thinking it will be for the best if Demon and
Missy go live with my Mom. Between Shon's asthma and Demon's bad attitude
towards everyone, maybe he would be happier with her.

What I think of you, is that you have an awfully difficult decision to

make. I
have all the sympathy in the world for you, and sending purrs that your

methods
get the asthma under control. I would hate to have to make that decision.

My
oldest kid was very allergic, and as hard as I worked to make the house
dander-free, he still suffered to some degree and I still feel guilty

about
that. But I couldn't get rid of them either. The difference is, his

allergic
reaction was sneezing, watery eyes. Not asththma. Hope things work out for

you.

Sherry

At first, my attitude was that we were a package deal. Love me, love my
kitties. But, the reality of the situation is starting to hit home. We're
not talking about a little discomfort here....asthma can kill. I really
love this guy and don't want to lose him.

Part of me thinks that this is some sort of Karmic backlash....Like, if I
want to be with this wonderful guy, I have to make a huge sacrifice to earn
him.

For the record, he has never once even suggested that I find new homes for
the cats. He just suffers in silence....well, silent except for the
coughing and wheezing wg When I told him that I was considering sending
them to my Mom, he told me I didn't have to and held me while I cried.

Horrible person? No, I think you're stuck between a rock and a hard
place, and are doing the best you can by finding a home for your
babies with your Mom. Sometimes changes in our lifestyle happen that
we have no control over.

To me, pet ownership is a life time commitment. While I hope that
that will mean that Rocky and the girls will be with me until it's
time for the RB, if not, it's part of that commitment to make sure
they have the best of possible places to live.

I'm still trying to find a way out of the situation. I keep thinking that
some magic solution is suddenly going to appear.

Maybe I should get off this stupid machine and go vacuum again....that would
be more productive and might actually help.

Haven't tried washing the cats....not that brave.

I vacuum every other day or so with a great vacuum that filters 99.9% of
allergens and I change the bag about every other week.

No air filters of purifiers here, but the new house will have a whole house
filter attached to the furnace that promises to filter 88% of allergens from
the air.

As for meds......he's tried Claritin, Clarinex, Allegra and Zyrtec.....these
all help with the sniffling and sneezing, but don't touch asthma. Right
now, he uses an Advair inhaler about twice as often as his doctor would like
him to and he still coughs all night.

I wasn't insulted....I just wanted to point out how judgmental you sounded.
Everyone has reasons for what they do that you may not know about. It's not
fair to judge someone when you don't know their motives.

Also, I'm a bit sensitive about the topic right now because this choice is
killing me. No matter what I decide to do, it's wrong. If I send the
furfaces to my Mom, then I'm choosing my happiness over them. If I keep
them, then I'm choosing my happiness over BF's health....either way, I end
up looking like a selfish b*tch.

Okay, so what do you think of me? I have three cats that I adore. The
oldest has been with me for about 9 years, give or take.

My boyfriend is horribly allergic to them to the point of having to

We're currently building a house together and should be moving in about

3
months or so. I've tried everything I can think of to eliminate the

So.....by your reckoning, I'm choosing a man over my cats. Does that

make
me a horrible person in your eyes? If so, RPCA isn't the place I

remember
it being.

Just so you have all the details....I've been with my boyfriend for over

a
year. I had no idea he was allergic until I was already in love with

him.
I have never been without a cat and can't really imagine life without

them.
I fought my ex-husband for custody of these cats. These was the hardest
decision I have ever had to make....it was easier to leave my marriage

than
it will be to give up my furfaces.

I'm sorry, Kat, I never meant to insult anyone. I know that hard decisions
have to be made sometimes. I think your situation is completely different
than Rowdy's, but I may have misunderstood. Lots of purrs are coming over

to
you for having to give up your friends. At least you can visit them at

your
Mom's-

Well, all I can say at this point is, *thank Bast you were there for him!!*

I can't say much in this woman's defense since I don't know her and you know
the story much better. Mostly I just wanted to say that I don't think that
every person who needs to give up an animal is heartless or stupid, the Bimbo
notwithstanding.
