that we used to have still rush back here for consolation if their cats die.
Facebook isn't adequate for that, is it?
Let me tell you all that unless you all post to this group regularly it will
die and you won't get any purrs and prayers from anyone.

Except that she'd been away for a long time and now wants us.

I think she was just informing the group, who used to know Francis, that he
had passed. I don't read her post as "now wants us".

If she wants us, we're still here. I hope that it reminds her how many
good friends are here and makes her want to post.

I feel the same way, Judith. Some people prefer Facebook, I don't really
care. If someone needs comforting after the loss of a beloved cat, I don't
have a problem with them posting here. (Apparently Wafflycat wasn't on FB
anyway.)

I refuse to post to Facebook or Twitter - too much danger of personal
information falling into the hands of hackers and scammers. (Why invite
problems, when Usenet has proven perfectly adequate for nearly twenty
years?)

No need to get into the Facebook debate again. Those who are on it, hope
they're happy. I don't begrudge old friends who use FB from coming here if
they've lost a beloved pet and want to let us know about it.

I've never seen a need for a debate really-it seems like some people
are saying "You're either here or in FB but you can't be in both". I
use both as I say FB is fine for short notes, funny photos, a few
lines updating people or contacting people but I regard here as the
online equivalent of a bar/coffee shop because I come here to chat to
friends

I just came back here on a whim since I've been away a while now, to see
how some old friends were doing. I gotta say, when I saw this post I
thought, "what a mean and nasty thing to say." If I haven't heard from
a friend in a while because our lives had led to different paths, I
surely would *not* be so petty and cruel about a death in their family.

This "whim" proved one thing - I was right in leaving the group and
going to a nicer, friendlier place.

Don't bother replying, I'm outta here faster than the first time.

Just one more word...

That person was *deluged* with sympathetic replies, hugs, and purrs
galore on FaceBook without even *ONE* nasty dig - there was no need at
all for her to "rush back here", she was going above and beyond just to
let old friends of Francis here know he'd passed. I think we can see
now why she hadn't posted here in so long.

Sheesh, don't know why I bothered.
