I would really appreciate some GYFBH purrs please. Yesterday evening
Smudgie chased a cat over our fence and kept on running. She has never
been out of the garden before so I am super worried. I have been walking
the streets calling her name and shaking her food box but no luck. She is
scared of strangers so will not approach anyone for help. I have put
leaflets thru doors and on lamp posts etc. I am so worried and am hoping
the "power of the purrs" will help guide her home.

Thank you so much
Sharon

I spotted Smudgie about 1.30 this morning from our back bedroom window
sitting right by the bin where I have put a sock! I stood for a minute to
make sure it was her then went down to our back fence with a torch. I
managed to look over and was calling her, she looked over but didn't move.
I grabbed her carrier and made my way quietly to where she was sitting and
called her again. She ran further away from me so I stopped and sat on the
road and kept calling her quietly. She then ran to another fence at the
back where there is a hole, stopped and turned as I called her again and
then went through the fence into the garden. I walked over to the hole and
kept calling her quietly but nothing. I left a trail of chicken from the
hole and across the roadway to our fence and came back indoors. I watched
out of the window for a while but couldn't see or hear anything. This
morning when I checked the chicken had gone but of course any other cat
could have eaten it.

I am so happy I have seen her for myself but now have the problem that she
wont come to me if I call her. This morning we are going to cut a section
our of our fence panel so she can come into the garden that way if she wants
to and borrow 2 traps from my local shelter. I will put one in our garden
and the other in the garden that she ran into if the owner doesn't mind (we
have spoken to him before and he seems amicable enough). Today I will
change her "Lost" posters for "Still Lost" posters with alternative photos
and put the word "Reward" in big letters!

Maybe today ......
Sharon

I'm so glad to hear you have actually seen Smudgie, and SO CLOSE, too!

I think setting a live trap may be your best bet, as obviously Smudgie
is confused and very, very scared.

It is VERY encouraging that she has stayed so close to home, though!

I remember when my first cat, Lucky(RB) got out of my house, many years
ago.

She was gone in a flash, but I found her underneath a car next door. She
was terrified, and absolutely WOULD NOT move the few feet closer to me
so I could catch her.

I kept moving around the car, and she kept moving away from me.

Finally, I enlisted the help of a neighbor, who scared Lucky from under
one side of the car to the other, where I was crouching behind a tire,
waiting to grab her.

So, just a few minutes after escaping into the OUT, my Lucky, who ALWAYS
came when I called her (indoors) was so scared, she wouldn't come to me,
when I called, from just a few feet away.

I'm sure poor Smudgie is VERY scared and confused right now. But, she is
hiding close by, so I'm certain you can catch her, very soon.

Purrs for her safe return continue.

Trap is set and baited with her favourite food - chicken and cat treat
sticks - in the back garden. I have sleeping at the back of the house since
she went with the window wide open so I can hear her mieowing. I'm hoping
the trap will make enough noise to wake me so I can check it right away. I
just hope she doesn't freak out when I let her out inside the house. We
have also cut a section out of our fence and I have put her litter tray
nearby with her used litter in it.

Now we wait ......

Will update

Suggestion: If you do catch her in the trap, do not let her out for a while. She will probably calm down faster in there. We are reving up the purrs and prayers that you will malke

a successful capture. Best wishes. MLB

Best of luck - if you find her in the trap, cover the trap straight away
with something large like a big bath towel or sheet. It makes it
slightly less scary if they are covered and in darkness. She will be
freaked out and very scared. When you bring her into the house, take her
into one familiar room, with food, litter tray and water already in
there and shut the door and windows to that room before letting her out.
Make sure she is calm and reacting normally to you before letting her
out of the room again, even if it's a day or so before that happens.
That way you can also check to see if she is OK and unharmed or in need
of vet treatment in any way.

Wil be thinking of you and keeping fingers crossed -

Deb.

How frustrating, but also wonderful that you've seen her - now you know
she's alive, pretty much OK (at least it didn't sound like she was
visibly injured in any way), and near home. And *not* stuck in someone's
home, who has decided he wants to keep her. (Glad that story was wrong!)

Good luck luring her back home. Purrs continuing!

The sighting is a very good sign. Good luck with the capture.

I've been following your story with interest and concern.

Is there any chance you could lure her into the house if the door were
open? The reason I ask is with respect to my own cat Calico, who at 13
1/2 years still can't be picked up. It used to take me as long as five
hours each night to coax her back into the house. (She's now totally
indoors for that reason.) At times, I'd have to put a bowl of food
inside, near the door, and prop the door open, with a long string to where
I'd be sitting across the house. When she'd finally decide to come in,
smelling the food, I'd yank the door closed with the string.

Sounds ridiculous, but might be appropriate here.

when you let her out of the trap do it in the bathroom or other smaller room
with tray, food/water and the door closed, will give her a chance to re
orient herself to you, the house and the tray, Lee

We had 2 cats come into our garden to investigate the litter tray and tasty
treats we put down by the trap last night. We scared them away but I'm glad
it's having the desired effect. Trap was empty this morning but it's early
days.

Hi Everyone

I just had to post because our local newspaper is going to do an article on
Smudgie! I emailed them at the weekend in the hope they may do a little
piece saying she is lost but they are doing an article with pictures and
everything! Oh I do hope this helps to find her.

Thank you all for your support, which continues to keep me so positive.

Sharon
