Fruit yogurt OK for cats?
Our 3 y-o Khamun seemed to really like the cherry yogurt on the foil lid
that my girlfriend offered him to lick last night. Is there any reason that he shouldn't eat yogurt - in tiny quantities I suspect as I can't see us ever doing anything other than offering the foil lid. I recall that cats' drinking dairy products like milk and cream is a bit of an urban myth from old Tom & Jerry cartoons but I'm not sure if it's actually harmful. |

PLAIN, unsweetened yougurt (in small quantities) is OK for your furball. As to the sugar & fruit... I don't know for sure & have my doubts. The live culture in yougurt is helpfull for digestion... Others may be able to tell you if the other ingredients can hurt or not. -- Mathew Butler to 2 kittens: Chablis & Muscat En Vino Veritas |

I eat Horizon brand yogurt, usually the strawberry, and my cats like it. They only eat a small amount. But sometimes I give them more (like a tablespoon) but then I will use the plain. I don't think the fruit would hurt them, but I think if you're using a brand that adds sugar, I'd use the plain instead. Yogurt is good for the gut bacteria. |

Although he'd probably like plain yogurt just as much, & a tablespoon or two wouldn't hurt him. I recall that cats' drinking dairy products like milk and cream is a bit of an urban myth from old Tom & Jerry cartoons but I'm not sure if it's actually harmful. Some cats are lactose-intolerant, but not all. None of my cats (4) seem to have had this problem. If he drinks a small amount & has no subsequent gastro-intestinal upset, then plain milk is fine for a small treat now & then. Cathy |
