Maybe because they're smaller than cats and many people think littler is
cuter. Maybe just because they're exotic.

(Someone here has ferrets - Nan?) I don't know what it is about them. I held
one once in a pet shop. The clerk told me they get along wonderfully with
cats.I was really tempted, and I've always been strictly a cat person. Never
cared much for other kinds of pets. However, I was pretty sure Nikki
wouldn't accept it. She might even see it as food, so I didn't buy it.

Not me! My SIL had a couple, and my daughter gave them away after he
passed on, but I don't think that I ever mentioned them here.

They are soooo cute!!!! I'd love to have one, but you-know-who won't let
me...
They're supposed to be de-scented when they're neutered. I think they're
adorable.

And I'll give you something else for them-- if you can stand the chaos
they leave in their wake, they're pretty damn funny. I find the way
they move to be very funny. My neighbor has one, and he's a very
jolly little guy. They way he moves just cracks me up-- it's hard to
describe, but he sort of flows down the stairs like water.

You make him sound like some sort of mammalian eel.

Well, sort of. They are certainly furry. They have short little
legs, and long, very flexible spines. Their little legs move so fast,
that they are like a blur, while you just see the long body move
forward, so it looks sort of flowing. I haven't known too many
ferrets, of course, but the ones I've known all had very cheerful,
peppy (probably too peppy ) personalities, and they live to play.
All day. All night.
