Hello and question
Hi,
I used to post to rec.pets.cats years ago. It appears that it's gone now and that I have not kept up with the changes. I see there are several cat newsgroups now including this one. It's nice to be back. I used to post under a different handle- Claire or John Swazey- and now have a new ISP and new internet nick...long story...still me, though. We have a new kitten whom we got when he was about 12 weeks old. He's now 9 months old and is a real character. He's the most aggressive bold cat I've ever had. He does have a sweet nature notwithstanding that, so he has become a very good pet. But he will play with ANYTHING. At the vet's the first time I took him he was upset but only because he was being held and controlled (he used to hate that but we've been working with him) and as soon as they let go, he was batting at the vet's stethoscope. Never had a kitty who did that, before. And he isn't bothered by the weather. Loves water, will lie down on a cold iron grate (to our water meter that is outside) and no problem. Very sturdy. He's extremely fluffy but not like a Persian. More like either a Maine Coon cat or Norwegian forest cat though I don't think he's a purebred. I think he has one or the other in him. I'm trying to figure out what, though. His tail is not only plumey but is about 4 inches longer than our domestic short hair kitties' tails are. (and believe me, it's hard measuring a cat's tail!). He loooves the water- wants to drink from the tap/stream and so we turn the tap on for him a couple times a day. We have a place on the property that collects water that we had lined with cement and a pump and doors to it put in. So we check it constantly this time of year to see if it has water and how much, so we know to turn on the pump. The other day he jumped right in and was not at all bothered by the fact that he was standing in several inches of freezing water. If we'd have let him (which we didn't) he'd have stayed there and gone under the house exploring. Also loves to knock things over just to watch them. Oh, and he's huge. at 9 months- which I don't think is totally full grown yet-he's well over 10 pounds, maybe 11 by now. And very long. Not stocky, not fat. (He is neutered) When he was a kitten, he wasn't one of those fluffy kitten one sees cute picture of. No, he had odd wisps of longish fur that it looked like he hadn't quite decided what to do with. But he's quite fluffy now. I'd say his fur is a good couple inches long. You can pick out segments and just run your fingers donw it. These pix don't quite do him justice but you can get an idea of what he looks like. (one of the pix is him as a four month old kitten. We took it to show how like a fruitbat he used to look...I don't think we quite captured the look...) http://s107.photobucket.com/albums/m...eswazey/Kitty/ What do you think? Part Norwegian Forest Cat? Part Maine Coon? Something else? C |
