If Beatrice was an intact female I think Abelard would keep her happy
without the consequence of bearing kittens. As it is, he is doing the best
he can with a girlcat who seems to think he just wants to play. He grabs
hold of her neck with his teeth and moves his hindquarters into exactly the
position required for mating, however Beatrice doesn't cooperate. Instead
she lays on her back and grabs hold of his head and cleans his ears.
Meanwhile he is totally focused on his mating "dance".

None of the other boys have ever done anything like this. Even Abelard
didn't do it until just recently. I wonder if maybe some cat breeds have the
ability to grow a second set of testicles....

I've heard about neutered cats doing this. It's more about dominance
than mating though, or from what I've read.

That would explain it, I suppose. He tries to do the same to Lily but she
won't allow it; she hides. I can't imagine he would ever try this on Baby
Eyes or any of the other boys, so perhaps he just wants to dominate
*someone*, anyone who will allow it.

Were they both fully descended, when he had his surgery?
(If one remains inside, I have the impression a male cat may
still be functional, but sterile.)

Yeah, they were both removed. He got neutered later than planned because he
was sick at the time. He was going to go with Tommy and Eli (both several
months older than Abelard) but we had to wait due to his illness, the vet
said.

Neutering doesn't get rid of all the hormones. (Thank you God)

Boy cats still display masculine behavior and girl cats are still girls.
Just not to the exclusion of everything else.

Getting neutered late does seem to increase sex related behaviors. Little
Molly is definitely a momma cat in her behavior just from the imprint the
experience left on her, even without the equipment to reproduce again.

What's "late"? Abelard was neutered around 8 or 9 months. Eli and Tommy were
closer to a year old. So if anyone was late, I don't think it was Abelard.
I've never seen Tommy or Eli do the sexy maneuvers that Abelard does - not
even close!

LOL! Yeah, considering John was "neutered" (vasectomy) in the 1970's I'm
happy to report he still gets the urge to do the horizontal bop.

Smokey was probably just over 2 when he was neutered and he still
thinks he is DA PIMP.

I believe there are several ladies on the group that have been spayed and
still have similar urges. ;-)
