Persia & the Halloween Costume (mine!)
I got all decked out this morning (yes, we got to wear costumes to work) in
a ballgown I'd bought for an American Civil War Re-enactment ball. It consisted of a hoop skirt (undergarment), a green velvet overskirt trimmed in white lace and a matching velvet lace-up bodice with lace on the sleeves. I went to put on the lace-up bodice when Persia suddenly spotted the satin cord for the bodice. She snatched at the cord, dangling from the grommets, with her paw and knocked it out. Then grabbed it in her mouth and ran off into the living room with it. Ah ha! (she said to herself!) I have a satin cord to play with! Oh no! I said... you don't! So there I am, running out of the bedroom in a hoop skirt, yelling, "Persia! That's MY satin cord! Come back here!" Luckily she didn't get far! Cats are so funny. I can buy her dangling toys all day long and she sniffs at them and walks by. Give her a piece of my costume, she's claimed it as her own. G I was able to complete my costume, with a theatre quality "Scarlett" wig and a fancy hat with flowers and an ostrich plume. Funny, when I came home Persia went, "Who are you?!" and her eyes got really big until I let her sniff my hand. Then she realized it was me. Gotta tell you, I was certainly glad to let those stays in that boned bodice out Jill |

I sing with an opera company and when we get costumes like that, we have to have dressers to tie up our bodices etc...Can't wait to see the pictures. Jennie, Xena and Callisto |

Jennie, Xena and Callisto The lacings on the velvet bodice are on the front I didn't wear a corset (which of course laces up the back) since the bodice was already fitted and had boning in it. The gown was two piece, custom made by a woman who sews authentic reproductions for Civil War reenactments; the clothing is strictly based on your physical measurements. No need for a dresser. I'm still trying to figure out where to post pics. Unfortunately, I only have one clear pic of me without a group of oddly dressed people and it does not show the entire costume. And they should have warned me to use some powder before the photo. My face was glistening... heheh Jill |
