Default Feeding the cat

Charlie has been refusing to eat and drink. TED thought he might do
better at home, but he didn't eat at all Wednesday, so they told me to
"force-feed" him. With a syringe.
Step one--mix the presciption wet food with some arm water. Step 2--
fill the syringe. Step 3--wrestle it into the cat. Surprising how
quickly he can move all of a sudden! Step 4--Watch cat hurk up the
food. Sigh....
So, I switched to baby food meat, which he would not eat out of the
dish. However, when I squirted in in is mouth, he did keep it down.
Well, except for the part that ended up on his fur, my shirt, the
bathroom wall...he is also taking an appetite stimulant, and I hope he
decides to eat soon.

charlei has, however, perked up in other ways: he spent last night
roaming back and forth on the bed, playing "bed-mice" with my toes,
climibng upder my chin and talking for 15 minutes at a stretch,
curling up on my pillow. Not a very restful night (it drove hubby
right out of the room!), but I would not trade it.

You willing to wait for the last da pickle thread on usenet, sometime
around the heat death of the universe, to collect? Whereas you have
to pay the first time he doesn't have the last word. So no one ever
pays.

Yeah CHarlie! Yu eet eet eet an git gud gud treets frum yur hoomins. Den

I've had better luck force feeding by putting the syringe tip in the
cheek with the mouth closed and putting a bit of food in there, repeat
ad nauseum. I think the sensation of having some go in between the teeth
is probably like they're going to gag, so most gets spit up.

I force-feed Cinder and it's done with 2 people. One holds her wrapped
in a towel and the other shoots the syringe of food into her mouth.
After every shot of food her mouth is held closed so that she
swallows.

Thanks for all the purrs; it seems to be helping. Yesterday he ate an
entire can of tune and a piece of liverwurst (hubby took the vet
literally when she said give hom anything he will eat...) Anyway, he
then ate some dry and wet cat food, drank water, & curled up on my
pillow for a short nap. Then spent the enite evening climbing on and
off the bed, under the covers, talking to himself constantly--not good
for hoomin sleep, but I'm too happy to see him acting like his old
self to care about sleeping.
