Does that give you access to the newsgroups with news reader software,
or do you need your own news reader software?

I'm paying $10/month for access to Usenet now.

The nice thing is that it works with a VERY old program I've been using
since 1998.

Individual.net is a standard NNTP provider, so your standard newsreader
should work just fine. What I like about individual.net is that they
filter out TONS of SPAM. I didn't realize how much of that they remove
until I started getting a higher-volume speed from other sources. They
are most definitely worth the price just for the SPAM filtering!

Amelia is right about Individual.net Mommy uses it and she has Windows 7 on
herown laptop, but she still gets 'some' spam, but she can filter it out.
