Default Angry and Depressed

I am so angry and depressed.

Yesterday morning, at 7 am, that is a LOUD knock on our door. It is
our awful neighbor, the one who kept her cat chained up indoors for
years and let it slowly die from feleuk in her home :-( The one who
kept her dog chained up outside for days without adequate anything,
until I called the Humane Society on her. The one who lately
complained to the landlord (for the second time) about me leaving out
food and water dishes for stray cats. That one.

She is with a man from across the street, who claims Sadie, the white
kitten, is his. He describes her, and DH has no choice but to go get
her and return her to him. He has three cats, none of them fixed.
The kitten belongs to his other white cat. I have seen his Russian
Blue on my porch, standing on ice, looking sick and miserable, during
the coldest night of this winter. When this kitten and the others
were born, our former neighbors talked to them and tried to help when
mama cat didn't nurse. Would they take cat and kittens to vet? No.
We have tried nicely to explain to them that, on this busy street,
they need to keep the cats indoors. Do they? No.

I try to do the right thing, thinking this kitten is a stray, only to
find out she belongs to irresponsible owners. And I have no choice
but to return her. One day, I expect to see her dead in the street.
I am heartsick.

And angry.

My awful neighbor knows DH works second shift. She didn't have to
wake us up at 7 am. She didn't have to pound so loud on the door,
loud enough the entire neighborhood probably heard her. She had no
business being on my porch in the first place, saying to the man (as
DH overheard), "She fancies herself a rescuer, but doesn't even put
food in the dish". !? Yeah, it was empty, because the strays and
wanderers had eaten it when I put it out that early morning at 4 am.
And isn't she the one complaining about me putting food out in the
first place?

I am beginning to hate my neighborhood. I am sick of this particular
abusive, neglectful neighbor. I am tired of irresponsible cat owners.

And I am so sorry for little Sadie, and the life that she will have,
and that I couldn't change that for her and make it better.

A very tired and depressed,

Ginger-lyn

Perhaps if you offered to buy Sadie for a modest fee? Say, $15. If they
really don't care, they'll scoff up the $$ and let you take care of the
sweet baby.

Ginger-lynn, I'm sorry you are angry and depressed. You have done all you
can possibly do. I'm sorry your neighbor is such a ****. If you can't move
out of the neighborhood, there really isn't much you can do more than what
you have. I know that isn't much consolation, but we know you have tried and
God knows you have tried. Please don't get yourself sick over this. It's a
sad situation, but you have to take care of yourself too. My main concern is
right now is you. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers, and all
the little kitties and dogs that live in your part of the world. God always
remembers.

"lrulan" had some very interesting things to say
about Angry and Depressed:

Perhaps if you offered to buy Sadie for a modest fee? Say, $15. If they

sweet baby.

Hey, that's a thought! Ginger-lynn, ask your neighbor how much she wants for
Sadie. I'm sure we can all contribute, hell I'll send you $20 towards buying
her if some other people can help. How about it folks?

What worries me here is that this bimbo would turn right around, get
another cat [doesn't she already have several more?], and turn this
into a business. Maybe I'm just cynical today [doing tax returns can
have that effect on a person].

Ginger-lyn, I know your frustration, and I am so sorry. You are such a
kind-hearted person.
I stole a cat once. It was unethical, illegal and underhanded. But I did it. I
couldn't bear to see what was most assuredly going to happen down the road.
I wish I had some magic words for you. I'll send all the purrs we have though.

Put me down for $25. Just e-mail me where to send it.

Sorry, guess I'm still royally p*ssed at my own neighbors. I sent off
my first reply without even thinking to send purrs for Sadie. It sure
would be nice if you could convince YOUR nitwit neighbors to let you
have or buy Sadie. Unfortunately, this won't help in the long run if
those neighbors refuse to neuter.

In my case, the neighbors have the idea that it's somehow cruel to
neuter. They were upset when I suggested it - money wasn't an issue,
since we have a non-profit group that does low cost neuters and I
offered to help pay. Heck, it only costs $18 to neuter a tom.

Perhaps you could threaten her with an harrassment suit if she
continues to bother you. BTW I'll send you some money too if you can
purchase the kitten.

I would feel exactly as you do in your situation. I have never had
the misfortune of living near neighbors like the ones you describe.
The adjective that pops to mind to describe your neighbors is "trash",
with all the implications that term carries when applied to people.
It seems so cruel that those people insist on having cats so that they
can mistreat and ignore them.
