Cat Urine Removal

I have looked on 5 different newsgroups related to cats for advice. I
found one thread with one reply that seemed more of a suggestion than
personal experience. If anyone one knows of a newsgroup that is or has
recently discussed removing cat urine, I'd love to know about it rather
than wasting people's time on a topic which must have been hashed out
numerous times in the past.

Here's our issue. We recently discovered that one of our cats peed in a
ceiling cavity above a built in entertainment center in our basement.
Insulation was in the cavity as well. The cavity is very hard to access
and I can only see in the cavity by holding a camera in it and taking a
picture. The cavity was a mess, fecal material matted down insulation,
etc. The cat must have been using the cavity for over a year. I removed
the insulation and fecal material as best I could, very well cleaned
out. I haven't been able to neutralize the cat urine. I have tried the
"new" Nature's Miracle as we used the product with success in the past.
I found out that the product recently changed and someone else
maintains the right to the formula while someone else owns the name. The
product that I bought as Nature's Miracle only made the stench worse
while it was wet. I supersaturated the cavity two or three times with
little success. I have tried vinegar as well.

Does anyone have practical experience with a product that could remove
the cat urine? The area is going to become a finished laundry room but I
have to remove the odor. I figure it's a lost cause, but I'll try
sealing in the odor before I rip out the wall and entertainment center.

Solution.

It handles diarrhea on the carpet when Gideon has an IBS flare-up
about once a year. It handled urine on the carpet when my hubby
accidentally left the bathroom door closed (where the litterbox is)
before we left for the day.
