I feel for him, and you. My dad took multiple tries, over a period of
decades, before he finally quit smoking. Even being diagnosed with early

of emphysema that continued progressing over time, he FINALLY kicked the
@)#($*@#)(*$ habit. Thank God for major favors. I wish it'd happened
sooner, but I'm glad it happened at all.

I really, really worry about him - he is getting close to 300 pounds and he
does *ZERO* exercise (and now that I've caught him he'll probably not even
bother to go walk around the block while he smokes)! He's a heart attack or
stroke just waiting to happen! :

get some liquid catnip or those little poppers that explode when you light
them use them on his cigarettes the liquid catnip make sure he ain't
driving either it will make him sick or give him a high with the worse
headache afterwards

I know what you mean, it's 4 years and 2 weeks since I last smoked and I
still crave them. I often dream about smoking. Purrs your husband finds the

It has been over six years be 7 years in February I still have to stop
myself when I am around other smokers from bumming a cig. Cat if you
husband really wants to quit talk to your doctor about zyban my wife took
it and it worked for her she had tried everything at least 3 x

I am going to say this from a man's perspective one he is going outside
and away from the house that means he feels guilty about doing it. or
trying to be a sneak you are the best judge.
There is no way to hid being a smoker you smell it no matter what you use
to cover it

The lying part is he making the lies obvious if so he wants to be caught.
Catch him in the act coming around the corner with a garden hose and soaking
his a@s to start would be awake up call. Did that to one of our kids who
lied to us about them smoking after we had quit.

If not being obvious confront him about it but be casual when you do it.
If you attack full on all you will get is a fight denials and more lies;
men either buck up, get real defensive, lie about it or admit the truth.

Make sure you let him know that the lies are endangering the marriage and
deeply emotionally cutting you

Giving up smoking is one of the hardest challenges they are specially for a
person who is over weight. Does he deserve some slack? Only you can answer
that you live with him between what your family is going thru from your post
I am surprised you haven't started back smoking. Keep strong and vent all

That's the worst part of an addiction - you may "kick" it,
but the urge never entirely goes away. I'm fortunate that
my only addiction is to food (although that can be bad
enough - "I keep losing weight, but it keeps finding me
again"). I had an alcoholic friend who managed to stay dry
for eight years, but when he came under stress (partly
financial, partly losing a few close friends to AIDS) he
began drinking again. He told me once "I know I COULD quit,
if I really wanted to, but it just doesn't seem worth the
effort". (However, he was apparently suffering from
clinical depression for the last year or so of his life,

My suspicions were *NOT* groundless. DH (standing for d*ck-head in this

Dylan (my DP's) parents used to smoke when he was a kid. When he was a
teen, they quit.

Well, when his dad came to visit us in 2002 we caught him sneaking out
to have a smoke. THis is after Christmas 2001 when we found cigarette
butts in the bathroom and we weren't sure if they were his dad's or his
younger brothers'

(Turns out both his younger brothers were ALSO smoking, the middle one
openly but the younger one since he was 14, clandestinely)

And last year, Dylan found out that it wasn't just his dad smoking in
the basement, but his mom again too.

So now he's the only person in his family not a smoker, and he's going
to be a DOCTOR so he is seeing people all the time who've smoked
themselves sick.

I hope that with some encouragement, you will be able to help Ben quit
again and encourage him to exercise. Maybe you could find some kind of
exercise that you could do together, or that he could do with his
grandkids. That would make it more enjoyable to do.

to eat for several hours. Yet I'm lucky if I can cut myself down to
one every other day. I remember when I had bad ulcers I had to quit
entirely for several months and even through the painkillers i was on,
I had the headaches from hell every day, starting at 2 pm until I
passed out asleep, for over a month.

Gods. I probably have no right to tell the smokers to knock it off,
considering that my grandpa Ludwig died in his sixties from stomach
problems.

Caffeine is supposedly just like cocaine to the central nerve system.

Withdrawals as you well know, can be, bloating, the squirts, migraines,
nausea, cramping, heart palpatations, dizzyness, sweating, Im sure I've
missed something.
