cat litter suggestions?

I'm looking for suggestions for the best cat litter as far as least
messy. And by least messy I mean doesn't get tracked all over the house
as much as other kinds. I'm using VetBasis now, which seems only a bit
better than the normal kind of grocery store clumping kinds.

Purina Maxxcat multicat formula.

Clumps are well formed and scoop without breaking.

If cleaned on a daily basis appears to last forever with no smell, only
need to add more litter.

It does track about 1 or 2 feet outside the litter box, but beyond that
I never see any around the house.

Very little dust from this brand compared to others.

We like S'wheatScoop which clumps well, is flushable (but we don't flush
it), has a decent smell, seems to last forever if scooped often (we do it
2-3 times/day as soon as box is used), and doesn't get all over the floor.
We also use a litter mat that helps a lot with the tracking, and we keep a
tiny brush and dustpan right by the litter box, and sweep up the remnants
every time WE use the bathroom. :-)

I've probably tried every kind of litter out there over the years. Meep
shows her displeasure with a litter by the length of time she moves it
around before and after using it:

clumping clay - worried about what it'd do to her innards, she'd get
lots stuck to her feet.
wood pellets - the sawdust becomes annoying, and it makes way too much
noise - she's a digger and it's just beyond the bedroom wall.
paper (like Yesterday's News) - Meep hates the stuff, and never stops
digging.
S'wheat Scoop - it clumped WAY too hard and stuck like concrete to the
box sides. Meep's a wall pee'er so keeping it deep made no difference.

I currently use Worlds Best Cat Litter, and we are all happy. It clumps
but not hard, is flushable, doesn't track too bad, keeps the smell down
completely, isn't too dusty, and lasts a long time between complete dumps.

My only problem is I'm overseas and it's not available here - I have to
order it online, and 'cause it's heavy I pay about another 50% of the
price to ship it out here.

I use and really like Swheat Scoop because it flushes well, controls
odor well, etc etc, but it is really light and dusty, and gets
everywhere. It even sticks to our medium-haired cat's fur, then falls
off as he runs through the house. We use a litter mat, but that only
helps a bit.

I like it enough that the minor mess it makes won't make me switch
litters, but I definitely wouldn't think of it as it as non-tracking.

I found S'wheatScoop dusty and tracking too. I wear a mask
when I scoop and am always sweeping up. The room in which
the litter was kept can quickly get covered with a fine film of
dust. I also found it clumped very hard. It takes a lot of effort
to scoop out the clumps. But it doesn't stuck on the cat's paws
like clay litter does.

It gets around a bit on my floor too, but it the pieces are so tiny
that I don't feel them like I did with clay litter. There's no worry
of the cats (and dog) ingesting it.


And while there is a little bit of dust, it doesn't bother my asthma.
I was just at a cat show as a vendor, and the kitty litter station was
about 6 feet from the edge of my booth. I spent the weekend blowing my
nose and having a full scale asthma attack. I didn't have my inhaler
with me the first day since I haven't even needed it for over a year.
I felt like I was trying to breath with a 20lb cat on my lungs. It has
been almost a week, and I am still coughing and getting out of breath.
All because every scoop of the litter sent a little cloud of dust into
the air. It's been so many years since I used clay litter that I
forgot how bad it was.

I love the swheat scoop, and I don't ever want to go back.

Also, it helps to keep it really deep. Then the globs don't get to the
bottom and get hard to scoop. Even the pee down the side isn't bad if
scooped a couple times a day. And since mine love to pee in the
corners, I tend to pile more litter in the corners to help keep it
deeper there.

You can also spray the bottom of the pan with cooking spray. I sued to
do that til I switched to liners. Now, I can just peel the liner away
from the clumps if there is a hard chunk on the side.
