OK, that was a rhetorical question, we all know I am. *But...

I can't stop thinking about my Sammy, how beautiful she was, how
friendly she was, how HUGE she was. *I miss *her*, not just her
attributes, but she made me fall in love with Maine Coon cats.

I know how you feel. My Rusty went to RB a year ago next month.
I still think about him a lot. Still don't want to sprinkle or bury
his
ashes. Need to him near me. Some nights I dreamed of him.

*NOT* enough to think about going to a breeder - we not only couldn't
afford that, but I don't believe in breeding cats when there are so many
being put to death for lack of homes. *But there are a few "breed
rescue" places around Houston that charge about the same or just a bit
more than regular rescue groups (for spaying, immunizations, overhead
expenses for the shelter, etc.).

I know money is short, and it's only going to get shorter, but in the
past we've always seemed to have room for "just one more (Baha, remember
that phrase from about what, 7 or 8 years ago?).

Do you think it would be absolutely crazy for us to think about adopting
just one more cat into our clowder? *It probably wouldn't be for quite
some time, I'd have to get the whole surgery/recovery/rehabilitation
thing out of the way, so it may be as far as six months from now or
more. *But I signed up to one group's newsletter so we can be at least
looking and speculating on how we could do it.

What do you think?

If I'm asked my cats names I end up saying "Sarsi and Dunzi....sorry
Sarsi and Bonnie"- it was 3 months last Wednesday and I still miss her
and cry...it does get easier but so slowly

I hope so. Ben is planning on quitting smoking during my stay in the
hospital (four weeks or more) - that will give him time that he won't be
with me 24/7 to be grouchy to me and I won't be around to aggravate him.
Even though he's only at a pack a day or less, that's still about
$7.50 US per day - $52.50 US per week - $232.50 US per month or
$2,737.50 US per year. If we could only (and nobody ever does this, but
we're going to really try to) put that money aside we could pay back his
sister the money we owe her in just a few years.

I just read this message and thought I would interject another comment, just
to give you an idea that your suggestion about smoking and saving the money
*can* work. My brother had been a chain smoker for a long time--several
packs a day. He finally decided that he was going to give it up (something
he had always said he "could not" do) as an anniversary gift for his wife.
He got prescription patches from his doctor, which he used for a short time.
The end result is that he has not smoked for 20 years! He started to put
everything that he once spent on cigarettes into a savings account. After 5
years, he was able to buy a new car!

Here's an ironic LOL for you.....it doesn't always work out like that;
I got 5 years more than your
bro of smoke-free life; quit early '84, thinking to have more bucks to
buy clothes with (carton of cigs
were then like $8). Shortly after I quit blowing cash up in smoke, our
*then* Prez (G.D. his lovely-voiced
soul& also his Alzheimer widow) *eliminated the IRS credit for credit-
card debt interest on returns*
No good deed (quitting smoking) goes unpunished (money pits). Snork.

Here's a smoking story I can tell: "Way back when" -- my boss decided
to quit smoking after 20 uears of being a dedicated smoker. He laid
down his cig and said "that is my last cigarette"!. He "stuck to his
guns" and now, some 50 years later, he just "celebrated" his 96th
birthday. Those of his family and close friends who were all heavy
smokers are now long gone. I was not a smoker, but I was surrounded by
their second-hand smoke and had to use lots of anti- histamine as it
really bothered me. Also "way back "when", cigaeretts were 15 cents a
pack. What I really detested were the stinky cigars. MLB
