Am I Crazy

I guess it's like with children, no one of them can ever take another's place in your heart and while a new child could never take the place of one that you've lost, there is still always space for "just one more". I think the human heart is larger than the infinite universe in its capacity to hold love. Stop. You have enough and not enough to care for medical bills for them all much less yoirself. Sorry, hard truth. You do not need another cat. -- |

What do you guys think about using a breed rescue over a regular shelter? Does anyone have any personal experiences with them? I've never really looked into breed rescues and don't know if they're truly rescues or just "selling" cats? With dogs breed rescues. Reliable. Since we'll be looking (if we look) for an older cat (not younger than 7) will there be more, age-specific problems with integrating into the current clowder? Older cats who have been away/lost for a long time can be difficult. Then again, my most recent was integrating a 14YO 'puppy' (aunti Mabel, 15yo come November since we decided her date of adoption is her birthday) adapted pretty easy. I've adopted/fostered many a 16 and up YO kitty. Your chances for them to be happy unless raised in a many cat household, go down if you have more than 2 resident cats. -- |

But I think you can hope that at some point when things are better financially and Ben's got a good job and your health has improved that maybe you could..... at least you;re starting to hope again. I think you are sensible enough to understand that whilst you want another cat at the moment you can't so hold onto that dream- you know its a dream right now so you aren't going to do anything about it but its something to hope for....I admit I agree with some other posters,,,now is not the time and maybe not even in 6 months but at least you're starting to see a future when a few months ago you couldn't see one and that is good! Dreams sometimes can come true! Lesley Slave of the Fabulous Furballs I hope so. Ben is planning on quitting smoking during my stay in the hospital (four weeks or more) - that will give him time that he won't be with me 24/7 to be grouchy to me and I won't be around to aggravate him. Even though he's only at a pack a day or less, that's still about $7.50 US per day - $52.50 US per week - $232.50 US per month or $2,737.50 US per year. If we could only (and nobody ever does this, but we're going to really try to) put that money aside we could pay back his sister the money we owe her in just a few years. And, as soon as I'm on my feet again after this surgery (hopefully in 5 or 6 months) we'll have that income also, to supplement my SSDI, and MetLife disability payments. So maybe the dream won't be so far away. But it's hard to resist - I don't usually go to PetsMart with Ben, but I did yesterday on the way home from a doctor's visit. SunMart has their rescues in cages there and I saw one HUMONGOUS kitty (had to be 20 to 25 pounds). He didn't have Sammy's markings, he was a light orange color, but had long, long hair). There was also one who did look like Sammy too. [But I'm not looking to replace Sammy, no other cat on earth could compare to her, she was one of a kind - I just love great big long-haired cats.] Both, however, needed quiet homes with no other kitties, so even if we could afford it now they wouldn't be suitable for an active 4 cat home. I'm not going back to PetsMart for a long, long time - it's easier to resist if you don't see them in cages trying to get you to pick them for their forever home. -- Hugs, CatNipped See all our masters at: http://www.PossiblePlaces.com/CatNipped See the RPCA FAQ site, created by "Yowie", maintained by Mark Edwards, at: http://www.professional-geek.net/rpcablog/ Email: L(dot)T(dot)Crews(at)comcast(dot)net |

Well, not directly anyway. Our mother was a 4-pack-a-day smoker for most of our growing-up years, so we were all second-hand smokers for most of our lives. And THAT, folks, is why you shouldn't smoke around children, EVER. Jane |

Jane My niece used to smoke up until 2 years ago with 2 kids BUT she would roll the car windows down or open the house window when see did so that make it OK according to her!! She finally stopped a couple years ago. |
