Boyfie lost his collar
I like him to have a reflective one in case he goes on the road and he came
in without it. I've bought him a new one today and he won't let me put it on. He sees it in my hand and disappears. He was at the door a moment ago, and I got near him but he heard the bell on it and has disappeared again. When he sees me he goes under the furniture, he knows I'll have to handle him to put the collar on. He is fine with a collar and I like him to have one to see he is owned, but it's not easy to put a new one on. He hates to have a new collar put on. No luck so far. He knows I want to do it and he will not stay still in the house. He is a crafty cat, but if he wants to go outside he needs a reflective collar. I just approached him and he went under a chair. He knows I want to put that collar on him and he is determined that I won't. I have the collar in my hand and when he saw it just now he rushed up to his bedroom. I won't go after him there, it's his refuge. He sleeps there and I never disturb him when he is in his bedroom. He has his own room upstairs to sleep in and he loves it. He spends at least 12 hours a day sleeping on a double bed with a nice duvet on it just for him. .. |

He knows I want to put that collar on him and he is determined that I won't. I have the collar in my hand and when he saw it just now he rushed up to his bedroom. This sounds all too familiar. It's what happens every time I have to put Advantage on Licky. I have learned to be extremely sneaky about it. Even so, he's often a step or two ahead of me and he seems to know - by telepathy, or *something* - that I have nefarious plans for him. Eventually I do succeed, though. If you have a pocket, I'd suggest putting the collar inside it so he can't see it. And don't approach him immediately. Give him some time to forget that you were chasing him. You have to be very nonchalant. When he's quieted down, and he lets you get close, then grab him and hold him with one hand (maybe on your lap?) while getting the collar out of the pocket with the other. I realize that in your current state, that might be difficult, but I don't think any of this involves raising either arm very high. Once you have him in your grip, you can put on the new collar. He just has to let you close enough to grab him, right? Doesn't he go limp once you've got him? I won't go after him there, it's his refuge. He sleeps there and I never disturb him when he is in his bedroom. He has his own room upstairs to sleep in and he loves it. He spends at least 12 hours a day sleeping on a double bed with a nice duvet on it just for him. I know what you mean! There are things I could do to trick Licky, that involve petting him in his favorite "safe for petting" places, getting him into a blissful state, and then picking him up firmly and bringing him to where the Advantage is all set up (the bathroom, usually). But I don't do that. I want him to *enjoy* being petted in places where he feels safe. I don't want him to be suspicious, and ruin his moments of pleasure (when he gets all zoned out and purry). How mean is that?? Besides, then he wouldn't trust me as much after that, and he'd be less likely to relax in those situations. So yeah, I have to be creative about it. I have to grab him unawares, but not during a time when I've coaxed him into trusting me. Joyce -- "Sentimentality" -- that's what we call the sentiment we don't share. -- Graham Greene |

I'll just have to wait when he is snoozing on my lap. and yes, I will trick him, but he needs a refl collar if he goes out. |

I'd remove the bell, which he probably hates, and it would make it easier to sneak up on him when he's asleep to put the collar on. Bobboe |

As you say, he is a crafty cat. I'd check up on him, just to make sure he has no stash of liquor up there. And since you never visit, are you sure he doesn't sneak in a few girlfriends at night ? :-) Jay |
