Hazel got spayed
Our precious bunny-cat has been spayed! Everything went well. We were given
meds and some special green powdered super-food for bunnies - called "critical care" - to mix with water and feed by syringe for the first few days, to help keep her nourished while her appetite was down. She did the cutest thing the second time I tried feeding this stuff. She wasn't too interested after the first few squirts, but I thought she needed more and I aimed the thing at her mouth once again. She backed up a few steps and vocalized, for the first time ever. Can you imagine what she said? Well I can't find the right keys to type her words but she clearly meant "no more". Try saying "uh-uh" through a closed mouth with the emphasis on the first "uh", and you'll have a good idea. Stupid me tried to get her to take another bite, and bite she did ... right into my finger! Just a gentle, warning type of nip, didn't hurt at all, but had I persisted after that, who knows!! She's recovering well, starting to hop around energetically again, eating and pooping constantly. I haven't heard any more sounds coming from her throat but she sure makes a lot of noise tearing up the stuff in her cage. |

What on earth is a bunny-cat? She's a rabbit who lives with so many cats that she probably thinks she's one of them. |

Since you don't have a male bunny rushing around after her, why did you feel the need to have her spayed? Don't tell me - your vet said it it would be a good idea. Unless rabbits have changed since I was a bit younger when I used to keep them and win prizes with them there is no need to spay or neuter a rabbit unless you want to keep it with another of the opposite sex. According to every pet rabbit website I've seen, unspayed female rabbits if not bred have a better than 80% chance of developing uterine cancer by age 4. |

Kelly Greene wrote: "Pat" wrote in message ... Our precious bunny-cat has been spayed! ........... What on earth is a bunny-cat? A pet rabbit in a household of cats, who is probably a bit confused about its identity? (Sort of like "The Ugly Dachshund" who was really a Great Dane.) |

(Whatever Kelly's past posts, this one seemed a perfectly reasonable inquiry.) |

Mine never did and usually lived to much older, but I cannot disagree as I don't know for sure. I suspect that (some) vets will latch on to the idea to improve their income. It's very fashionable atm to neuter and spay anything they can get their hands on and to promote it. Next thing it will be guinea pigs and hamsters. |

Either you were very lucky or all the rabbit sites and vets are wrong, or in a conspiracy to deprive female rabbits of their ability to breed and their owners of fees for the surgery. In any event, we cannot undo what has been done to this rabbit, and I do hope it helps her live a longer, healthier, and happier life. |
