California was "an oil & gas state", too, last time I looked. How come we're paying as much as $2.75 a gallon, some places? LOL! I wish ours cost that! 79.5 pence a *litre* I have to pay. Isn't that around 8 dollars or so a gallon? Tweed (they stopped telling us how much a gallon was, quite a while ago in case we went went crazy about it. We are so gullible it doesn't seem so bad priced in litres :-( ) what would make most in Europe insane would be to learn just how far many of us drive daily to work. I seem to remember, from my last trip out there a couple years ago, that part of the explanation was limited number of refineries. Tweed (they stopped telling us how much a gallon was, quite a while ago in case we went went crazy about it. So at today's exchange rate 79.5 pence per litre would be $5.765 per US gallon. Which is still expensive by american standards. -- Adrian (Owned by Snoopy & Bagheera) A house is not a home, without a cat. |

Speaking of which, I am still kind of stunned about Jerry Orbach. I was pretty stunned when I heard on the news that he went to the bridge. It won't seem right without him. I loved his character Lenny Briscoe; he was mind candy and Chris Noth was eye candy. Pam S. Me, too. I got to chat briefly with him when I was in New York as a tourist. They were filming part of the episode at the Labor Board building there. He was very nice. Sherry They film exteriors all over the city. You never know where they're going to turn up. Quite an obituary and tribute in the Washington Post -- turns out that in his Broadway days, the same guy that played perfect jaded cop was the singer who introduced the sentimental "Try to Remember". Oh sure. He was a real theater fixture, and a Tony winner-- he also originated the part of Billy Flynn in "Chicago." He had a powerful baritone. He was just a really beloved New York character-- it's very strange to think that he is gone. He was actually designated a "Living Landmark" by the Landmarks Preservation Commission. I have read that the UK has the world's highest fuel-tax rates, apparently as a deliberate measure to encourage use of public transportation rather than individual vehicles. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGPfreeware 7.0.3 for non-commercial use http://www.pgp.com iQA/AwUBQdbkDzMYPge5L34aEQKdGACeJtnd5Z/QJMeRFr7PzQJa3/hX/HwAnR/X C0Qk3kqzFMMGtI0O+zGvE50V =ZBzL -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- John F. Still though, it seems wasteful on one hand, but on the other hand, if he is in an accident I want him to be driving something sturdy. Sherry I can relate to that Sherry. I feel fairly secure driving down the highway in my '59 Chevy Apache. It's like a little tank. A bit of a gas hog, but I suppose that is partly due to the sheer weight of the thing. My current car is a 1991 Chevrolet Caprice station wagon, weighing 5500 lbs. (2.75 tons). The fuel mileage is nothing to boast about, 10 to 12 miles per gallon for city driving. On the other hand, when I was struck from behind by a pickup truck about 16 months ago, the impact merely dented my rear hatch, but broke the engine block on the truck, judging by the way all of its oil immediately leaked out. My sister and I have agreed that, when she gets a new car soon, I will buy her old car. My station wagon has given me good service, but, at over 300,000 miles, a lot of different systems are wearing out. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGPfreeware 7.0.3 for non-commercial use http://www.pgp.com iQA/AwUBQdblZzMYPge5L34aEQImkACgw8FlcoWt6cTvHaZoL+p1OY 5tcQsAnAnd DQBSLDqHyTt7jZvPokKVw+D6 =/8xX -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- John F.
