How to help a stray mom and her 2 kittens
-- Hello, this is my first time posting to this group. I usually post and help Samoyed Rescue. Every since I helped my last Samoyed Rescue cross over to the Rainbow Bridge this past May, I've been loaded with stray cats. At one time this summer, we were feeding about 8 of them. All adult. Except in August. We had a large grey cat my brother named "Garfield", cause thats what he kind of looked like. Well, about the first week in August, we discovered one night that Garfield was really Garfieldette and she had two kittens. She brough them all the way over to our house to eat. The kittens would have came right into our house, but mom cat gently grabed them by the nap of their neck and stopped them. I wish she hadn't. It snowed this past Tuesday night and Wednesday, 7 inches in all. We have not fed any cat since then. Now, tonight, we just fed mom cat science digest and gave her some of that really expensive milk they make for kittens( its about 4 bucks for a quart over here). As far as we can tell, the kittens aren't far from here, but we would really like to save them from the winter. We've put a sleeping bag on the front porch ( it is open) and put an army blanket on the floor. We covered the whole thing so mom and the kids could have a shelter. So what should we do now? try and catch them, and stick them some place inside the house? The one kitten liked to come inside, till I tried to trap her last Sunday night. Boy is this fast. But she has built the trust back up and does venture inside ( this was from before last Tuesdays snow storm) We know Samoyed dogs. We do not know cats. any and all suggestions and help would be appreciated. Rich, Emil and just a whole back yard full of furry critters. visit our pooches www.foreverhomesamoyed.org "Ancientone....he goes on and on...." Once the kittens are weaned, they will probably follow the mother
to your food source. |
