Default Sad day for trees

One of Nikki's favourite places to go for walkies used to be a little copse
beside our block of flats. Used to be.

I've been too tired to go out with Nikki in the evenings after work now that
I'm back at work, but yesterday I had a burst of energy, and asked Nikki if
she wanted to go out. She looked unbelieving at me, but when I jangled her
harness at her, she jumped off the bed and ran to the door. Out we went, and
Nikki headed straight for her copse. But it wasn't where it used to be!

All the lovely trees had been felled, and I suspect the underbrush will be
next to go. There was a sign up saying they will build a parking lot here. A
parking lot! As if I didn't hate cars enough already.

Poor Nikki dashed this way and that, looking for her wonderful copse. There
was no birdsong any more. No rustling among the leaves any more. I can only
hope that all the birds had left their nests (that's likely, since some are
flying south already).

Our lovely copse is gone.

Aww. That *is* sad. It takes so many years to get a tree full grown. All for a
stupid parking lot.

My condolences on your and Nikki's loss. It reminded me instantly of
the following song.

Regards and Purrs of consolation,
O J

"Big Yellow Taxi "
Words and music by Joni Mitchell

They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique
And a swinging hot spot

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

They took all the trees
Put 'em in a tree museum
And they charged the people
A dollar and a half just to see 'em

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

It made me cry, too. ( Now she has ants in her pants and wants to go
outside again but I keep telling her the copse is gone (and besides, it's
raining).
