One would think that you'd be happy there were many ads out, increasing
chances of a really good adoption. But you'd rather bitch and draw attention
to yourself.

I'd be much happier if the lies stopped, so much for Monica telling Meghan a
good home was lined up, if that was true why the need for the ad with the
glamour shots. And Dan claims Conan is with a foster family, more lies. A
vicious cycle.

And don't be an idiot, Conan had his chance for a good adoption, three times
now. You know the saying, everything happens in threes, I hope there is a
fourth.

And the next time I want you to speak I'll throw you a bone.

I tried to wade through that "Dan lied" thread, but I just couldn't
make it through all that, so I'm still trying to figure out what is
going on. Seems like a lot of obfuscation and misstatement to me, but
maybe that's not surprising given all this heat. In the end, nothing
seems all that different to me, except that people are saying some
pretty suprising things that I don't think are particularly true:

I was a party to absolutely all the private e-mail correspondence about
Conan, and spoke to Dan on his cell phone, and there was absolutely no
abuse or rudeness or harassment, from Mary or anybody else. I posted a
chunk of that material already so I'm not going to post it all over
again, but the implication that Mary was anything but cordial and
helpful, concerned about the kitty, open to whatever the group decided
was best for Conan, and basically treating Dan like a God for doing
this little thing is patently absurd. It doesn't even deserve a
response, frankly, and sounds a lot like looking for a cover for some
not particularly honest and forthright actions on his part.

This back and forth about ad placement is another red herrring. If you
take a look at the link Trish just put up, it is definitively Conan the
cat, and he is the last and most recently added cat on the Pawdsquad
site (of about 100 available). Pawdsquad is a reputable place and it is
virtually impossible that they would accept such a listing for a
private placement
from someone who didn't have custody of the cat. The ads are assuredly
being placed by the people who have Conan.

Which leaves us right where we were befo A cat in a bad space,
offered (4) homes by people touched by his story having his adoption
delayed by another bunch of people who interfered without having a
better option available and now have to try to place the cat themselves
and take care of him in the meanwhile.

If a home were actually lined up for Monday, then contacting Pawdsquad
and getting this listing up would be a waste of time. It was put up
today, as confirmed by the position of the cat as the last adoptable
cat on the website. So the adopters have now refused the 4th home
offered (Meghan's) and continue to attempt to place the cat while
offering up
various red herrings about abusive phone calls and adopters who don't
seem to exist and ads that they deny placing.

Silliness, if you ask me. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a
duck, it's probably a duck.

Hopefully the cat will be placed in a home, eventually. It's taking a
lot longer than it needed to.

Thank you TraceyRose, you've said everything I was thinking but was too
peeved to type it all. It is completely unacceptable that Conan still does
not have a home and that so many untruths and as you say "red herrings" are
being spewed from those that are responsible. It amazes me that they can
sleep at night.

FWIW, the rpca post I read sounded like Dan didn't know who was doing
the harassment. That's why I asked why everyone on rpch+b was being
kept out of the loop, since the harasser might not be a regular on
either newsgroup. Usenet it full of crazies and someone could have
thought it would be funny to try to throw a wrench in the works, just
like some people think it's funny to make fun of dieters in the diet
support groups, or harass people in the grief support groups.
Maybe I missed someone specifically naming Mary as the harasser, but
Dan's post didn't name anyone as the harasser.

I hope that means Conan gets a good home.
I'm not really involved in this but when I heard about Philip
returning the cat to the shelter, I was all ready to send some money via
Paypal to someone who could get him out and find him a home. I'm still
really concerned about Conan, and I know feelings got hurt, but if he's
in a good foster home who is placing ads in reputable places for him,
I'm OK with that. I don't know why Meghan's offer was turned down,
though, and that does concern me.
Like you said, though, the situation now means the interest generated
in Conan because of his Usenet story is lost.

We may not know why they were turned down. Like Nomen said yesterday,
we don't know the reasons, at least for the first 3 homes. I don't know
why they turned down Meghan's offer. I personally would like to see
someone here on the group take Conan, though, but that's just a personal
thing.

Hopefully the cat will be placed in a home, eventually. It's taking a
lot longer than it needed to.

I don't think we can rule out the fact that there may have been some
harassment and that the parties involved got panicky and withdrew
because of it. There was already some high drama going on with the
decision to take everything off the newsgroup and only letting certain
people know what was going on. I can definitely see someone going
farther and making a decision to do something secret.

Sure. Indubitably. I toldja I got lost in all of those threads.

Truthfully, I wasn't all that involved, myself, until pretty late in
the game. just thought that it was really wonderful that this group,
not usually a bastion of teamwork or constructive thinking, was going
to engage in a joint project and do right by a kitty who got a bit of a
raw deal. Whatever the merits of the offers, I thought and still think
that it was really heartwarming that people offered homes to this
little cat sight unseen and I wanted to help. I don't know that my
feelings are all that hurt, and I certainly have said repeatedly that I
don't think it's a tragedy (certainly not yet, anyway), but it does
feel frustrating the project got overwhelmed by human competitiveness
about who is the best rescuer of cats. I still think it was pretty
unnecessary, on the whole. And I don't think anyone really knows why
Meghan's two offers haven't been taken, or Greg's, for that matter.

Like you said, though, the situation now means the interest generated
in Conan because of his Usenet story is lost.

Yeah - which was really his best ally in beating the odds. Every darn
cat on that Pawdsquad's site has a pretty terrible story, some a great
deal worse than Conan's.

You still do not know WHO actually placed the ad(s). Monica denies placing
them. You do not know anything concrete.
