Last night, Betty started smacking her lips and occasionally rubbing
at her jaw, which was unusual, so I checked her mouth and found that a
lower fang seemed to be slightly misaligned. I set up a vet
appointment this morning to have it looked at.

The vet found that the tooth was very loose, and Betty's lower jaw
seems to be swollen, and the bone misshapen. She thinks that it is an
aggressive form of bone cancer. Betty was given an x-ray to see if
the cancer has spread. Her chest and organs seemed to be clear.

Betty is scheduled for a bone biopsy on Thursday. Results will come
back about 10 days after that, and then Betty may be referred to the
local veterinary oncology center.

In case the jaw area is infected, Betty is to be given liquid
antibiotics. It must taste pretty bad, because she's never struggled
with me as much as when I gave her some. Her normally pristine white
ruff was spotted with pink saliva from the blood coming from the
inflamed area of her jaw.

I'm terribly worried about my little baby Betty. I don't know what
happened - she seemed so normal, and then there was just a little lip
smacking.

Terribly sorry to hear this. All the purrs in the world that the biopsy
results show it's something that can be successfully treated. In
the meantime please try not to fret too much: Betty will be upset
by your distress. I know it's far easier to say than do..........

Prayers to both of you. No little kitty should have to go thru all that.

Healing purrs in process for Betty and hopes that TED can help her.
I foster kittens and have found that with bad tasting medicine,
using a syringe (without the needle, of course) and pulling up the
medicine (such as 1cc) then also putting 1cc of water in the same
syringe dilutes the taste and seems to help them tolerate it better.

Ack... Much sympathy, Takayuki. I hope the cancer can be cured. Poor
Betty! They're such stoics, cats. It's so hard to tell when they're at the
early stages of a serious ailment, as they behave normally. The smallest
things can go unnoticed, even when they're very important clues.

OMG, I am so sorry to hear this. Consider the prayers prayed and the purrs
purred that the diagnosis will be something that's easily treated.

Purrs on the way for the cancer to be a worse case possibility which
proves not to be the case.

Lot of purrs on hugs for the worried slave over the LONG wait to get
the results back from the test
