HOW TO FATTEN A CAT UP(AS OPPOSED TO REDUCING ONE'S WEIGHT)
I have one cat that has just got over a nasty case of ringworm after
her owner neglected to tell me it came as an added extra free bonus..!!You have no idea how ungrateful I am towards her..believe me?!This is irrelevant really, the point is,I have tried all sorts of diets and potions to try & get her to gain a bit more weight-including science plan, kitten food, wet food, dry food fresh meat for extra protien...conditioning tablets, protien supplements and even minced beef mixed with oily fish, but none of them seem to have made any difference at all.Since bringing her home, she has gained the sum total of 250grams in a space of 4months.Other than the lack of weight gain, she has had good blood results,& no lurgy's found-seems perfectly happy, but looks like a bag of bones, poor thing. We have a multi cat household with several varieties of cats including hienz 57's,birmans & a couple of ragdolls.Compared to even the stray we took in a day or so ago,she looks neglected at a quick glance.Being a Birman, her natural build should be quite solid & stocky. But this is not the case with her, she looks half starved!Has anyone else ever encountered a problem like this before,& if so, how did you deal with it,& make it work for you? S. jsut an idea and it may not be a good one but...you coudl try giving her food for very active young cats or maybe kitten food? active cat type food may have more calories and energy in it and be what she sneeds to gain weight, i don't know if that is a good idea. Also kitten food may be more easily digestible than ordinary adult food and may have more protein etc as it is designed for fast growing little furry bodies and again this may be just what she needs. i don't really know but that is what i would probably try. ask at tyour local cats protection branch for help and advice too, they are alway having to rehabilitate and feed up emaciated cats then have rescued so they may know a few tricks. what is your area? you should have a branch near you. it is christmas night and there is f*ck all on tv, not even a bond film, ******** |

Ok,best start@ the begining& work my way forwards.I got her in begining of september,& she lost 500grams from the day I got her home, until mid October. At that point I went back to the vet & she put her on science plan. She was on that for just over a month & gained 100grams!When we got to bag number 2,I questioned whether she thought it was worth it,& she agreed that we didn't seem to be getting anywhere,so we went for plan two(below) ,the point is,I have tried all sorts of diets and potions to try & get her to gain a bit more weight-including science plan, kitten food, wet food, dry food fresh meat for extra protien...conditioning tablets, protien supplements and even minced beef mixed with oily fish, but none of them seem to have made any difference at all Plan two was to try kitten food, so we swapped her onto Royal Canin kitten food as well as a wet 4times a day -diet of one can of whiskers, alternated daily with one meal being ground beef& oily fish too.Since mid October until now, she has actually gained a further 150grams, but I would have hoped that she would have gained a bit more than that given the amount of food that she is actually eating. In point of fact, she gets more to eat a day than my big males are & they are packing wieght on,where as she isn't?!! i don't really know but that is what i would probably try. ask at your local cats protection branch for help and advice too, they are alway having to rehabilitate and feed up emaciated cats then have rescued so they may know a few tricks. what is your area? you should have a branch near you. I have had a word with them too,& the only other other suggestion that they had was for me to try her on Cimmi-cat as well to see if that makes any difference to her.(I live in the cambs area by the way).Cimmi-Cat is a powder formula milk that they give to lactating queens and thier kittens to help them maintain their weight whilst lactating for kittens-so that it takes the pressure off mummy feeding a large litter.I happened to have about a quarter of a can here from the last litter we had ,so I have started her on it& she is gulping it down like it's going out of production?!Only problem is that it is also giving her the side effect of *the dreaded squitz*!!!So now I don't know whether to keep giving it to her, or knock it on the head... I think you are right.I will have to get back to them and ask for further advice on this one. It isn't that she won't eat;far from it, she never stops when it is placed in front of her.It is not worms, because I wormed her just over 3weeks ago on drontal.(unless there are worms that it does not cover that I'm not aware of?) I will try & add a link to a photo of her for you to see what you think. She is ecver so hairy,so maybe you wouldn't notice@ first glance, but under all that big fluffy winter coat, she weighs so little that it worry's me I do realise that she is still recovering, but the point is that she is eating such a lot, that you would have thought she would be gaining far more than she is. I keep thinking that there is something that I am missing here-the question is,what? On a foot note, lol, your right about the digi box-I did it earlier,& guess what...little britain, sky news or some poxy documentory on binge eating britain.Brillaint-Bring back Michael Grade, all is forgiven-we need you to give us a few decent movies again. Thanks for your thoughts on this one-if anything does come to mind, shout again if you would please?
