It's just about the perfect time! All da goodies ought to be jus about
done now. I sure glad somekitty reminded me!

[Jocko races over to the steam pit and fetches a large long-handled rake.
He's joined by a couple of staff kitties, who help him pull the seaweed
back from over the goodies.]

Here we go - on top, we'z gots some steamed fishies of various types.
We'll stack them over here (piling them on platters on a nearby serving
tables). Next layer down is lopsters. Oh, kitty, they smell good! Here's
enough steamed lopster to feed a small city.

[They now pile up another set of platters with steamed lobsters.]

And finally, da clams.

[They now rake out many pounds of steamed clams. The steam rising off the
pit smells richly of fish, lobster, clams, seaweed, and salt water.]

Da clams will need a few minutes to cool off, but efurryfing is ready -
the clambake is served!

Clams and lopster go quite nicely wif toona, too.

It was an accident, really. When I was a liddle kitten I was exploring the
long pier on Catalina Island, and I got just a liddle too enthusiastic
(who ever heard of enthusiastic kittens, huh?). I fell off the pier into
the water, an I went under the water! It was furry scary. But while I was
under the water I saw some hoomins under the water with air tanks on their
backs and masks on their faces. One of them saw me fall, and he swam over
and carried me back to the surface and helped me find a wooden piling I
could climb up. I purred for him and gave him a kiss on the nose, and
after I got dry again I started watching for other hoomins with those air
tank thingies. I watched them and figured out that the tanks and stuff let
them breathe under the watermonsters.

I figgered that if they could it, I could too. After all, anything a
hoomin can do, a cat can do better. So I did a lot of looking around, and
talked to the big cats who lived in town, and found a cat who could get
cat-sized air tanks filled. It took me a couple weeks, but I managed to
put together a cat-sized dive mask, and I decided to give it a try - I
walked into the water with my mask and air tanks!

Boy, talk about surprised fishies! You should have seen the looks on their
faces when they saw a kitty swimming under the water with them. Once I got
over the initial scare of realizing that I was IN the water, I realized
that swimming with the SCUBA gear was actually a lot of fun. Then I
discovered abalones, and lopsters, and all the other yummy things that you
can find in the ocean. From that day on, I've tried to spend a little time
diving just about every day.
