animzmirot wrote: Oh, I know, but the timing was more than a bit suspicious, wasn't it? We know that Nancy trolls with a group, and nobody was more of a cheerleader for "Mary" than Trish. That's how troll groups work. I am wondering just who else was part of the troll cabal. Charlie? Barry? Phil? KitKat? So many to ponder. Phil P.? or Philip? I'd say a resounding "NO" on either. I'd say no on all those you mentioned as well as Trish, really. I was supportive of Mary the Conan rescue and I actually enjoyed bantering with her sometimes. I'm not a troll either. Candace Well, I guess if you are not simply outraged and appalled by Mary, then you must be a troll. Makes perfect sense. Not to mention all my posts...you know...about my cats Jasper and Luna. Very trollish!!!! Oh well. The drama continues. And I read it. Such is life. Carry on. Pam |

-L. wrote: I think Rhonda is the only one who was "astonished", and that's because she trusted Mary. I think others are just a bit horrified at the extent to which it was perpetrated (e.g. the amount of history). I know I was, a bit. That's exactly it for me. I'm not surprised at her trollery and I guess in some ways I don't even think it's so awful. I thought trolls were a part of usenet, we all know they exist. I can't say *I* would enjoy trolling but I suppose some people might. The harm, if there is any, comes in people who take it all too seriously, I suppose. And I can also see that it can be disruptive and take away from a group but, really, you can't control that other than ignoring the troll. I'm just exceedingly surprised that she left a trail leading to her real identity. That's what shocks me. I really thought she would be more careful. I also am somewhat "awed," for lack of a better word, that Karma was able to tie it together. I suppose once it was determined that "rosefan" was posting to other groups than rpchb (Mary never denied that she was rosefan) that it began to fall together but I can't quite figure out where it all tied to her real name...in one of the genealogy groups, I suppose. I haven't read every single link in the OP. I truly find every aspect of it quite fascinating. I gotta say, though, her job sounds cool. But then I love research and grubbing around in old archives; that and the historic district representative thing; it sounds like she has it made profession-wise. Candace |

Charlie Wilkes wrote: Also, has anyone tried calling the phone number provided? You would be a good candidate to do so, Candace, because you are bold, resolute and intelligent. Let us know what you find out. Well, thank you for the compliment. I'll admit I was tempted but I didn't do it. I wouldn't know what to say and it's not likely she would 'fess up anyway. She knows I'm usenet buddies with some of her "enemies" so she'd probably think I was a plant. To be quite honest, I don't want to be on her **** list. I don't want to see my personal info all over usenet someday either. I'll bet you someone has called her, though. I don't know who but someone who read that had to have done it. I think it's odd she quit posting, too. She posted to this thread for a while and then stopped. But, like I said, I find it all very fascinating. I also found all the analysis of the Conan photos fascinating. I love mysteries. You'd really be a better candidate for calling her, Charlie. You and she have always been buds and you were both on the rescue team. I was just a bystander. Candace |

Candace She once threatened me a couple of times when I said she was liar . just wanted to add that if you had any idea what I do for a living you would not even attempt to engage in this kind of sophistry. You are way out of your league. I just wonder what she thought she could do ! Blitz me with death certificates? G Alison |

wrote: The part that saddens me about this has nothing to do with Dan and Monica or a stray cat. I don't even think I can put it into words, and probably no one cares anyway. It has to do with how people can act and treat each other while feeling so anonymous on the usenet. And I've been down in the computer gutter too. I think I understand. You are here to be yourself, and you are level with people. It's cheap and easy to exploit that honesty and drive it out of the system until only the bull****ters remain. It's a form of vandalism, desecration of the commons. But, others would argue that role playing is part of what makes Usenet interesting and fun. If you want a more focused discussion of a particular subject, go to a board on a web site. Also, there is a lot of sanctimony in these animal groups that flatly invites a hostile response. If people want to pronounce judgement on my competence as a pet-owner, that is fine, but it is they, not I, who thereby establish the basis of a conflict. Dan, Monica, Cheryl, Lyn and others have not shied from denouncing me as unfit to adopt animals. They're entitled to their opinion, but guess what? So am I. Many people in this group post hostile, inflammatory comments day in and day out. That is why people like Mary show up and stick around. Charlie |

And as for trolls, what about Philip? Did he just pop into Usenet existence for the first time a few months ago, when he started looking for a cat? Maybe so. It seems nobody so far took note of the OE version 'Karma' posted with. Very few here use that version, and one stands out. Joske |

But your point is same one Celeste/Mary made in this ASH thread. She did not taunt a suicidal person. She rebuked someone for posting a joke message about a suicide pact that had been in the news. Go back to the Karma post and follow the link to the thread. The truth is there. Charlie |
