Oh my! I will miss you something awful, but I sure wouldn't want to
interfere with your human's trip. Ummmm, I think I need to ask you
something before you go away, but I'll do that in a different thread.

Ok, kitties, here we go - we just reached the Catifurnia/Arifurzona
state line. This bridge here takes us across the Colorado River - see
all that water down there? Now, we'll take the next offramp from the
freeway, then we turn right and take the frontage road back to the west...

Ok, here we are. Now let's stop here for a minute, at this dirt area at
the end of the street. We're going to take a narrow trail, just wide
enough for a motorcycle and sidecar. There are a few whoop-de-doos, too.
Just make sure that when you get to one of them, you hit the bump at the
same place that I do, keep your front wheel straight, and keep your paws
relaxed. And when we get to the part of the trail that drops down the
face of the cliff, keep tight to the left side. Otherwise you won't have
enough room to keep the sidecar on the trail.

Ok, let's roll! Miz Dyna, please hold on tight.

MouseCat guns his throttle and roars off across the desert. He follows
a narrow trail, originally a game trail. He comes upon a small rise,
hits it at speed, and sails about 10 feet before the cycle touches down
again. He is followed by Tiger and Mlle. Anais, who touch down at the
same spot MouseCat did. Next come ShortTail Tom and OEJ - STTom hits the
rise a little slower and wobbles just a little bit but still lands
securely, though landing a couple feet short of where the other kitties
did. Bringing up the rear are Samuel and Lilith Kitten. Sammy also keeps
control of his bike, and they land about midway between MouseCat's
landing spot and STTom's.

They then come to a sharp curve in the trail, where it starts to
switcbback down the face of a cliff about 30 feet tall. They proceed
slowly, being careful to keep on the trail.

They finally reach the bottom, then ride another 100 yards or so to the
south, stopping just a few feet from the river. 10 to 20 yards to the
east is a cliff, ranging from only 30 feet high to the north to over 150
feet high to the south. Similar cliffs rise on the opposite side of the
river as well.

Ok, kitties, here we are! This is the north end of the Topock Gorge.
This area of big cliffs and caves was cut into the rock over many
thousands of years. A very long time ago a bunch of humans lived here,
and they made cave paintings and rock paintings called petroglyphs. You
can see some of them from here. Take a look up there points up to the
cliffs - see, that patch just below the edge? Then about 20 feet down
and 70 feet south - and all over the cliff face. But there's one special
one. Anykitty who feels up to a little climbing, follow me! Miz D, may I
hold your paw?

MCat leads the others to the base of the cliff, where a huge pile of
boulders lies up against the cliff. He starts to climb, occasionally
having to make a jump from rock to rock. Whenever possible, he holkds
tight to Dyna's paw. After a few minutes of climbing, they reach an area
where a piece of the cliff face has flaked off, leaving a recessed area
protected somewhat from the weather and the sun.

Panting Here's my favorite. See, one of the early humans drew a
picture of a human family *including* the family d*gs and the family
kitties! As you can see, the kitties ruled over the dogs (as is only
natural). I don't think any of the humans who study things like this
have ever seen this particular drawing.

What do all of you kitties think? Is this cool, or what?

Ummm, miz Dynamo Kitty, I need to ask you something...

While your humans are away, I'd like for you to be thinking about
something. I have never known another kitty that I felt as comfortable
with, or who makes me feel as warm and complete as you do. Do you think
you might possibly maybe be interested in wearing a winkwink collar?
Please think about it and let me know when your humans come back.

Ok, that's all I can ask. I sure don't want to pressure you or rush you.
If you would be more comfortable doing a less formal "see-how-it-works"
arrangement, we can do that too. As long as I get to spend time with my
favorite girlcat of all time, and spend time trying to make her happy!

pleased that I could share it with a special bunch of kitties like
yourownselves.

Isn't it? The gorge itself is impressie, being carved by the river and
all, but the ancient rock- and cave-painting is even more so. To think
that humans lived here so many thousands of years ago... and that
felines ruled them even then!

That would be wunnerful! Let's go!

Lilith Kitten-Mahoney
Adjusting Her Goggles

Sammy and Lilith follow the other motorcycles, leaping gracefully over
the moguls and slowing carefully for the sharp turns. Sammy drives
especially carefully on the steep downhill section, wanting to keep his
precious winkwink safe. They arrive safely at the bottom, join MouseCat
and the others looking at the petroglyphs, then return to the riverbank
and a patch of nice, clean, warm sand.

Sammy lies down, rolls over on his back, does upside-downy-head, and
purrs to Lilith...

Ah, dis feels nice! Care to join me, mine luff?
