Default question on breaking down of advantage flea control

Hi
I have been posting lately on flea control and I e-mailed the local rescue
group and found out who there vet was and then i called them today and found
out that they will sell me advantage for my kitties without a prescription.
Now I was wondering the exact breakdown of how you can use the dog version
on cats as I could just buy the dog stuff and use it on all 6 of my pets and
than i could buy more next month since 6 packs for the dog are 61 for under
50 pounds and i think both of my dogs are under so i would use that for them
and than use the remaining ones for my cats. 2 of the cats are under 10
pound and 2 are over. i'm not sure how much over i think around 15 pounds
total each though. i know the kittens exact weight from like 2 weeks ago
and they are around 5 pounds each though.
thanks for the help

never mind
i found the website that has it listed so i will probably end up getting my
parents to take me there this afternoon to get the large size dog since i
can use it on all of my kitties and my 2 doggies and it will last a fair
amount of time so i can continually use it instead of only using it when
they get it. now when i phoned the lady said nothing about having to be a
client of there's so i hope i don't have to.

Good luck to you on this. I just did it yesterday. The vet tech
configured it for my seven cats, and gave me one of the large dog
tubes and one of the medium; this left a little left over, but that's
okay. Her instructions were .04 ml for cats under 9 lbs., and .08 ml
for cats over 9 lbs. Be sure you get the syringes from there, too
(the small ones). I ran into some trouble getting it to work straight
from the tubes, so I squeezed the Advantage into a small medicine cup,
and that worked just fine. Don't forget that if you have any cats
that mutual groom each other, to separate them for 2-3 hours so they
don't lick it off each other.

Lauralai

Dosage ( minimum) 10 mg/ kg body weight topical solution (0.4 ml of the
10 % solution to cats under 9lbs body weight, 0.8 ml of the 10 %
solution to cats over 9lbs of body weight, 0.4 ml of the 10 % solution
to dogs 10lbs and under, 1,0 ml of the 10 % solution to dogs between 11
- 20lbs of body weight, 2,5ml of the 10 % solution to dogs 21-55lbs of
body weight, 4,0ml of the 10 % solution to dogs over 55lbs of body
weight).

Advantage comes in two sizes for cats
9 lbs or LESS 0.4 CC
10 lbs & Up 0.8 CC
One tube of large dog Advantage contains 4CC.

I think .4cc is too much for a small kitten. I prefer to weigh and use
..05cc/lb. which is slightly more than the minimum dosage. My ten-pound
cats get 1/5 cc.

Cats metabolize drugs more quickly, for one.

I have found (and used to counsel) that under "normal conditions"
Advantage will last 6 weeks on most animals. If you have a heavy flea
problem, apply every 4 weeks and you will be safe. Manufacters are
very conservative in their guidelines for use.
