I talk to my cats all the time. If someone heard me they would think I was
talking to children not cats.

Do you sing/talk to your furry friends?

Every morning while I get ready for work Pepper lounges in the
bathroom sink. As soon as I get out of the shower and move to the
sink he stands up on his hind legs and puts his front feet on my chest
while staring in to my eyes. He is such a cute little thing Well,
this is my hint to pick him up and sing a little ditty about what a
"pretty Pepper kitty" he is. If I don't do this he will pace the
bathroom counter and push things on to the floor. As soon as he gets
his song and cuddle he will go back to lounging in the sink. And the
thing is, I really enjoy the "kitty time" every morning while I sing -
and I swear that if I sing a different song he knows. If the song
changes I get "the look of death" until I sing "pretty kitty". So, am
I alone or are there others just as goofy as me?

Ugol's law states that if you're doing it, there's someone else
doing it too. It wasn't originally applied to the interactions people
have with their furry masters, but it still applies. We just had a
discussion of the song someone made up to describe that cute behavior
they do where they lay their head down and roll it under, "Mr. Upside
Downy Head." The originator of that thread also wondered if there
was anyone else that goofy. It turned out that there were quite a
few.

That would be me.

If someone heard us talking to our cats and thought we were talking to
children they would probably call children's services. Nice thing about
cats and dogs. Mostly they don't know or care what you say. Just how you
say it. Just talking about "conversation" here, not commands.

Poor Rosie is a disgrace to her species. She not only knows her name and
usually will come when she is called, she has learned the word no and
responds to that as well. We reserve it for keeping her from dashing out
the door everytime we let the dog out.

Welllll......I don't yet sing to my cats except if I happen to be
humming and they hear. But Cats love rituals, and I have rituals going
with Panther. When I take my morning shower, he likes to be in the
bathroom with me. The warm, steamy air must feel good to him--kind of
like a kitty sauna. Then he sits on the window sill and supervises me
as I dry off and get dressed, and frequently tell him how beautiful
and how loved he is. After 16 years together, I'm pretty sure Pan
thinks he's my husband. =o)

Cesca and I haven't been together long enough to establish rituals,
but she has learned that "Kitty Breakfast" means jump off the bed and
go tearing into the kitchen, then circle back and tell Mom to hurry up
if I have the gall to make a pitstop, first. She's also learned that
when Mom comes home from work, "Kitty Supper" is just around the
corner. She'll try that, even if I've only returned from putting my
washing in the dryer. If I open the refrigerator door, she's right
there.
