Seemed fairly minor with very little resulting disability, but the tiredness was a real problem - she didn't get back to a reasonable energy level for a year. There doesn't seem to be much hard knowledge about post-stoke tiredness - Marion participated in a study in Edinburgh that was led by a doctor from Central Asia who seems to be one of the few people in the world to make it his main focus of research. But no useful results yet. A friend of mine had a stroke several years ago, and the same thing happened with her. It was considered a "mini" stroke, and didn't cause her any problems with motor function, language or memory. But her thinking got a lot slower, and she was utterly exhausted. I remember thinking at the time that tiredness was an odd post-stroke symptom. After surgery, or a debilitating illness, sure. But a stroke? Sounds like a lot of doctors think the same way, and that this is under-researched area of medicine. Even a "small stroke" is bad news. Part of the brain has died. Bud |
