Ours is a little cooler than I expected:

It's at least partially on-topic - Ranger is on part of the clip.

Just a couple of friendly tips for you after seeing your video: if you
spray your (dry) shovel with Pam or WD40, the snow won't stick to it and it
will be a lighter job. Second, is that a garbage bag on your lilacs? If
so, you'll want to poke some air holes, otherwise you'll have a mould
problem by spring. That's why people cover their shrubs with burlap, so
things can breathe.

Still purring for Sammy to come home.

I'll give that shovel idea a try.

The lilacs are surrounded by a plastic mesh tube, filled with dry
leaves, then wrapped with coarse linen. The garbage bags are to keep
rain out and have some pretty big holes in the sides.

Very hot and stinking humid. Feel guilty about running the a/c but can't
stand sweating like I've just run a marathon whilst doing nothing more
energetic than slumping in front of hte TV.

Extraordinarily cold for the time of year here. Everything is
covered with frost. No snow, the stars are absolutely clear.

We had a lilac bush in Michigan (which is colder than Iowa) and never
bothered with any covering. It grew to be humongous. These bushes are quite
hardy.

Light rain mixed with a few flurries. Hoping it doesn't turn to ice and make
another big limb fall on my fence, which I just repaired for the third time.

My youtube is on the fritz, but it's typical Seattle-ish weather, cold and
rainy.

You guys probably don't want to know what the weather's like here. But
what the hell, you asked. Today it was about 65 degrees F, sunny and
very pleasant. No snow, no ice, no sweltering heat, and very little
humidity. Just a very high cost of living.

Aparently some varieties can be suseptable to weather, especially in
their first few years of life.

Dan did some research when he planted these and doesn't want to take
any chances.

Yep. I was surprised by the number of orange cats out there.

The orange guy out in Baxter looked a lot like Sam, but it wasn't him.
Fred was the first cat I found when checking out another lead. In later
days I found that Fred was sharing his shelter and food with Red, Red2,
and Patches. I'm building a large trap now that ought to allow me to
catch several kitties at once. I can't see leaving the park cats out
there in the snow and ice and the sub-zero temps that are coming; it
would be much more humane to trap them and take them to the no-kill
shelter.

All four of the kitties are well-fed. Nancy and I met the other people
tho have been leaving food for the park cats; they're very supportive of
our efforts to trap them all. Fred and Red were obviously house cats;
Red let's Nancy pet him, and Fred really wants to let people pet him but
he's a little bit too afraid. I'd really love to meet the people who
dumped these 4 cats. Really.

good luck with the trapping. Fred looked more wary rather than a true
feral. Like Granby wrote, it's better that you never meet that type of
people, it would be a lot harder to take care of the cats from jail
