Thank you, all of you, for your suggestions and help. I'm going to try
to get out and about today to, if nothing else, try to get my mind off
of myself and on to something pleasantly distracting. I'll top at GNC
and look at their teas and other remedies.

And Yowie, I could only wish - I think Texas, being Texas, may still
have the death penalty for any amount of 'herb - even a roach! Still,
I'd use it if I knew anybody to buy it from - if I went "shopping" in
the part of town most likely to have it I'd probably end up dead rather
than relieved.

I am at the maximum dose of pain killers that I'm allowed by my doctor,
but my pain level feels like I've taken nothing at all. Also, the pain
is keeping me from sleeping (I literally woke up screaming at one point
last night - scared the sh*t out of DH) - so any home remedies for sleep
would also be appreciated. Homeopathic, 'old wives' remedy', *anything
not prescription would be welcome. It's at the point where I had to
give my pain and sleep medications to DH just to be doubly sure I don't
given in to temptation when my pain outweighs my power of reasoning,
such as it is). Topical or oral, it doesn't matter (though I'm already
using Lidoderm patches with no effect. Heat doesn't help and ice is
totally out of the question with RSD.

TIA.

LOL

Stick with lavender to help you sleep. I have a spritz I spray on my
pillows. And Valerian root. It won't help with the pain but it helps
with sleep. And lavender just smells nice

Jill

I buy linen water from this place:

All the suggestions have been good. A glass of warm (of if you can't
take warm - cold is OK) milk. Make sure you stop watching TV,
reading/posting on the net or other similar stimulating activites 1/2
hr before turning out the lights to sleep. Also, make sure your bed
coverings are neither too warm or too cold. If you don't already,
keep a glass of water, juice or milk next to your bed to sip if you
awake - this can help you get back to sleep quicker because you won't
have to get out of bed...of course, if you're like me you need to get
up anyway and pee!!

I've been having terrible sweating during the day and soaking night
sweats - which doesn't help for sleep. But, we put a paddle fan up in
our bedroom with the standard three settings. I have a remote on the
nightstand and I have found this helps a great deal.

I call anything a success if it lets me get a full 2 hours of sleep at
a time AND allows me to fall back to sleep - for hopefully the next 2
hours...

My faves are lavendar - especially a light spritz on my pillow, a
glass of warm mile, flavored bottled water on the nightstand (I make
it with tap water and orange or lime juice) and my paddle fan remote!

I've been told self-hypnosis can be very helpful in such cases. How
good a hypnotic subject are you? (I'm not saying "the pain is all in
your head" - I know it's not - but the body IS controlled by the mind,
so sometimes one's mind can convince one's body it doesn't hurt.)

Not a good subject at all. Twice a professional has tried to hypnotize me
and both failed. I've also tried self-hypnosis and meditation but I'm just
too d*mned distractible for it. I'd *LOVE* to be able to do it, I've heard
it's helped people with stopping smoking, weight reduction and a score of
other problems.

don't know why i didn't think of this, self hypnosis is good because you
focus on the tape so at least it distracts you, at best helps you relax and
for me sleep, Lee

if you decide to try a tape make sure to get a tape with a gender voice that
doesn't upset you, and music is a must for me, another thought, have you
tried a white noise machine? Lee

There is a herb that is very well known for releiving pain, relieving
nausea and stimulating appetite. Alas, I think its still illegal in
Texas. However, if you were to move to California, and had a doctor's
prescription for it, you could get it legally.

There may be legal pharmaceuticals that mimic its psycho-pharmacological
function, but you'll have to ask someone in the know over there.

Down here and around these parts, the cops generally don't give a hoot
if you have an amount small enough for 'personal use' and otherwise keep
out of trouble - its the ones who 'deal' and / or break other laws
whilst under the influence that they tend to worry about.

Yowie

The pharmeceutical equivalent is Marinol, and those who "know", say it
doesn't work as well. Then again, one never knows, it might help in
'Nipped's case. I take Valerian to help me sleep. Chamomile tea
helps relax me some.
