Kitten Updates!
I may or may not have posted about the little bitties I took home in April.
Five orphaned kittens (mom was hit by a car), just under or around two weeks of age. I have rather bad pictures of them as tiny things, and they would be online if photobucket had not dropped my account out of the blue. Anyways. The lot of 'em made it safely through their respective spays and neuters, and they're now available for adoption at the shelter. No health crises while I had them, and they're happily bouncing around their cage. I've officially decided that the worst part of unweaned kitten fostering isn't so much the lack of sleep and the irritation that follows, but that week stretch where they're not quite pooping in the box all the time. That stretch of time is hell on my carpet. As a bonus, I picked up my first kitten off the side of the road about two weeks ago. I was driving back to my mom's house and spotted the little thing a few yards from some already-squished skunks, so I pulled over and backed up. She didn't move the entire time. Stress-panting, eyes wide - we figured she was possibly side-swiped by a car or at least severely buffeted by a passing vehicle of some sort. Crusty nose goobers, goopy eyes. The eyes and nose were significantly better by the next morning, when I called a local vet clinic that's known to take in unwanted animals and rehome them. They were full, and could only recommend calling the local shelter (which is no-kill and thus has a huge waiting list) or the "pet motel" (which likes to say it's a humane society but apparently has never finished filing the appropriate documents to make it a non-profit organization). My sister, who works for a different local vet, said flat out that the pet motel would put the kitten down because it seemed ill. So I made some calls to work (DCHS in Madison, WI) and got the okay to bring the munchkin down. http://humanesociety.dane.wi.us/Adop...l.asp?id=59770 My younger brother (whose shirt wrapped her up on the way to my mom's house) named her Valkyrie. She's also available for adoption. When they upload the newest pictures of the Five Monsters, the links will be posted here. ~J |
