Wow! I'm sure you didn't find the dream very funny, but I did, reading
about it! You gave the leash to a random stranger on the street, "Here,
hold my panther for a moment." LOL! And the pile of sand in the bus
shelter. What a great story!

it's funny now but when I was dreaming it, it seemed real. I was in a panic
with this massive, potentially dangerous cat on the end of a leash. And he
was huge. His collar had part of an address on but the important letters
were missing, so I thought he must be a kind of pet panther who'd got out.
but hey, when he looked at me and growled, I just let him tow me along. I
knew not to let him back where Boyfie was. Quite what I was going to do
with him, I don't know when I couldn't get him any food and the police would
not come. Dreams that are based on anxiety always do this. You know what to
do, but you are prevented from doing it.

I was very glad to wake up.

I'm sure this had to be at least partly about the intruder cat. That might
be what he looks like to Boyfie, and maybe you too - the big, dangerous,
mean intruder beating up your beloved boy. I'm glad you haven't seen him
around lately!

I was very glad to wake up.

I'll bet!

Dreams are strange, they come from deep in your subconscious. I think the
panther was the intruder cat, the need to buy large amounts of cat food was
from how much I have been trying to overfeed Boyfie to get his weight back
on. The panther weeing in the sand is probably about his litter box refusal
issues.
I'd seen a quiz show on TV a few days before where one of the questions was
"how many of the big cats roar?"

Well, not a panther, even in my dream I knew this ;-) As a matter of
interest, all you reading this have a guess (without googling!) and name
them. Just for fun.

Tak, your dream was much nicer than mine. Mine was full of anxiety. I have
a panther on a lead, the police will not come to help to take it away, now
what to do? Stuff it with cat food obviously but couldn't buy any..
I was actually still awake this morning at 6 a.m. having not been to sleep
at all.

I felt a huge responsibility to keep hold of this big cat to save Boyfriend
from it.

That is a big responsibility! I thought dreams were supposed to be for
leisure - responsibilities are for when you wake up.

I think that lions and jaguars roar. Do tigers roar?

Yes. Lions, tigers, leopards and jaguars roar, the only 4 big cats that do,
apparently. I didn't know that, I thought cheetahs and cougars would also
roar but they don't.
So my panther didn't roar either, he growled and snarled and showed his
teeth to me. But hey, 10 tins of cat food for one meal might have calmed
him down.

I do have strange dreams. Last night I was living in a huge derelict house
and had just given birth to a baby girl.

I've had some dreams recently involving having cats in my house, many of
which look like Buffy but aren't Buffy. I have no idea where they all
came from. There are also lots of people I don't know in the house and I
don't know where they came from, either. That dream is rather disturbing.
It's almost like a game where the goal is to find the real Buffy and get
all the strangers (people and cats) out of the house.

Jill

That is also an anxiety dream.

I think you are right. Even though I haven't thought about it much since,
it's obviously on my mind.
Never seen him around since the huge fight. Which did the trick but has
left Boyfie not quite himself since.
He got horribly beaten up and he could hardly move when he came in but he
saw that cat off his property for ever.
The black cat got more than he wanted and has not been back.
Boyfie has always been bullied by black cats. He got fed up with it
eventually.

I wish! They are often expressions of anxiety or grief or other unpleasant
feelings. There are those mornings when you wake up and go, "Oh, thank god!"

Cougars purr! And I mean adults as well as kittens. It's the cutest thing.

I don't think there's an actual species of feline called a panther. What
we usually think of as a panther is actually a leopard - a black leopard
(zoologists call them "melanistic" leopards). "Panther" is a common
name but not a scientific one.

There is a genus (right above species) called "Panthera" which includes
most of the big cats. Mountain lions are in the Puma category, but that
wasn't always the case. Some years ago I remember reading that they were
in the "Felis" category, same as our housecats, but I guess that's changed.
Genome sequencing has radically altered our understanding of biological
taxonomy, and the charts are a mess! There are all these new categories
sandwiched in between other categories, such as subfamilies and superfamilies,
subgenus, superorder, etc, etc. And it seems to change on a regular basis.

I hope that once the genome projects are completed for most species,
scientists will redesign the taxonomic tree so that it's more orderly!

In my dream, this was a black huge cat It could have been a melanistic
leopard. but I doubt it, as it didn't roar.

Dreams do not have to go with what is true. I had a panther on a lead.

My stress dreams usually involve elevators (for some odd reason) or
staircases that won't get me where I need to be. Fortunately it doesn't
happen often but I do recognize the cause.

I had a fun dream the other morning. It made me feel good. It was
about me cooking dinner for my parents. In the dream my mom and I were
shopping for the ingredients for the marinade. We walked around talking
about all sorts of stuff while we picked up the ingredients.

I woke up in the middle of trying to select the best piece of ginger
root. I think possibly Buffy woke me up. That or the sound of rain.

It wasn't a memory. Mom and I rarely ever went grocery shopping
together. I know I never made those grilled country ribs for her or my
dad. But it was a companionable dream, not anything at all stressful.
