Just call us stupid!
Our water has been frozen since tuesday night, and we tried all sorts
of things to get it thawed. Nothing seemed to be working, so we brought out our little propane space heater, and put it on the window beside the blockage. Dave (DH) went outside to do some snow blowing, and I was tidying up the kitchen, when I smelled smoke. I ran outside and yelled at Dave, then went to the heater. It had started to char the siding! I quickly put snow on it, and yelled for Dave to call 911. He got the phone, and handed it to me, so I made the call. The Bridgeport fire chief was here in about 3 to 4 minutes, and he called for 1 truck and the thermal gun. A second company, South Bay, also reponded. They took part of the siding off - I told them to do what they needed to - and found that the only thing that had burned was about 6 inches of the siding. Phew! Ironically, as they were working on the fire, our water came back on. Grrrr! They said it probably was from their pounding on the wall tbat broke the ice free. I wanted to replace the siding, but not for this reason! Sigh. I was panicking over getting my crew to safety - I need to get someplace that I can take them all. Maybe the camper would be the place to do so. Got to think about that for a while. Now, time to go settle my nerves! Mishi |
