Guest Cat & Kitten
We met Guest Cat's kitten tonight! We've seen her coming and going
from a storage building in the neighborhood, and tonight we could see her out in front of the building with a kitten. I walked down there and sat with her a bit, but the kitten had fled back inside when it saw me coming. Guest Cat followed me back to our house for a snack and some petting, then I followed her back to the shed. I explained that I'd like to meet her kitten, as I'd only had glimpses of him at a distance. She trilled until he came out. If I didn't *know* she had this kitten two weeks ago today, I'd have guessed he was probably four weeks old. He's *huge* for his age and very well developed, but he does have that tiny-kitten wobble. I sat in the wet grass for an hour, watching him totter around and pounce on Guest Cat's tail and bap at his shadow on the shed door. When Guest Cat washed him, he tried to wrestle her head. Guest Kitten is a little tabby with a round little belly and a sweet stripey little face, and is unbelievably adorable. Frequently he'd look up and once again notice Big Scary Me and run back into the shed, but Guest Cat would call him out again. Later on, I spotted them outside again and DH walked down there with me. I have spent more time with Guest Cat and she has bonded more to me, so DH was afraid he might not get to see the kitten, but she called her baby out to meet him too. He was thrilled. DH, however, is even bigger and scarier than I am, so the kitten stayed close to the hole in the door, and we didn't stay long. We still don't know whose storage building this is; maybe we'll find out when they call the police on the loons who keep hanging around their building. As there is only one kitten, that certainly simplifies the issue of trying to find homes for the babies. We'd love to have Guest Cat and Guest Kitten both, if they will have us. Of course, this means that now we have to come up with *two* names. Sigh. :-D ------ Krista |
