OT - Work
Well, I'm just seeing this post today -- many purrs that all goes well with
your new job! Thinking of you! Christine "Singh" wrote in message ... Well, I have a job. It's that one with the law firm that does collections, that "It's um like skip tracing" one. I start tomorrow, and I'm full of more trepidation than excitement. Praying fervently that this won't be another cesspool like that bank job. There'll be phones involved, but at least I can control them; doing outbound stuff leaving messages for the lawyers. I was told 72 times that there would be no selling, collecting, or other similar obnoxiousness involved, just playing messenger and hoping to God someone does not shoot me like in some trashy Western they show late at night on independent channels because even infomerials don't want the airtime. It's late; what the devil am I saying? I wish I were younger and had more excitement about this. Now I'm going in with a jaded eye I shouldn't have, and too damn much worry. Someone please tell me I have nothing to worry about! Tell me I'm competent; tell me I'm under 40, for Godsake! There. This concludes my crazy talk for today. Tomorrow's crazy talk will start at noon, when I punch it at this law firm. Maybe I'll do some good in the world and rope in a few deadbeat parents or something. Blessed be, Baha |

I'm pretty sure no one will shoot you (or even have any idea who you are, individually), and I'm very certain that you're more than competent. -- monique, who spoils Oscar unmercifully pictures: http://www.bounceswoosh.org/rpca |

What they asked the placement agency for was a person who was articulate and sounds authoritative; the want the place to sound like a law firm (which it is) and not a collections boiler room. I think that's a nice way of saying they want me to scare the pants off of them without using harassing or threatening tactics. Well, I can do that well enough. My voice projects. So I am in effect pimping my vocal cords for a lawyer! God, does that sound absurd. But it's pretty decent, and they're quite pleased. They've gotten a boatload of callbacks which is exactly what they want, so the more experienced tracers can get more information. It's kind of nice to play private eye; I like knowing that I'm helping track down some SOB who can buy a new swimming pool or sports car (and have a judgement placed on both) but not do the child support payments. I think I might do well. I hope. It looks good so far though. Pimp those vocal cords away! I've also been employed as a caller of various sorts. I was told my voice is pleasant (hard for me to imagine, but hey, it got the job done). -- monique, who spoils Oscar unmercifully pictures: http://www.bounceswoosh.org/rpca |

It's actually not so bad.
The people are very nice there; it's a small office so I don't have the slings and arrows of outrageous noise to contend with. The raging noise of a huge call center was one of the things that contributed to a sickeningly high stress level. Basically I'm just leaving messages for either a debtor or relative/neighbor/whatever to call so either the debt can be collected, or more information can be gathered to get hold of the debtor. In short, it's entry-level skip tracing, but it's not so bad. I find I can deal with phone work easier when it's all outbound. I can breathe between calls and they computer system is simple so I don't have too much stuff flying at me. I think i might actually be able to handle it.
